Rings of Power Season 3 Trailer Confirms the One Ring and a Brutal Three-Week Release

The waiting is almost over, and the news is not good for anyone living in Middle-earth. Prime Video has finally dropped the official trailer for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and it confirms what Tolkien readers have known all along: the time for talking is done. Sauron is no longer scheming in the shadows. He is forging the One Ring, and he is winning.

The trailer, released alongside a set of new posters, paints a picture of a continent that has already lost. Five years have passed since the catastrophic fall of Eregion, and the map has shrunk dramatically for the free peoples. Sauron’s forces, including the terrifying Nazgnagôl in their dark armor, have marched unchecked across vast territories. What remains are isolated pockets of resistance: the Dwarves sealed deep beneath Khazad-dûm and the Elven refuges of Lindon and Rivendell, held together only by the power of their Three Rings.

Rings of Power Season 3 Trailer: The Forge at Barad-dûr

The centerpiece of the new footage is Sauron himself, played with chilling focus by Charlie Vickers. From the top of his newly completed fortress at Barad-dûr, the Dark Lord is obsessively dedicated to a single task: crafting the ultimate weapon that will bring every remaining kingdom to its knees. The trailer makes it clear that this is the season where the One Ring finally enters the picture, and the weight of that moment hangs over every frame.

Galadriel, still carrying the scars of the last season, delivers the line that defines the new chapter: “Everything has brought us to this moment.” Morfydd Clark’s character is no longer the confident commander charging into battle. She is watching a tide of darkness she cannot stop, and the trailer shows her facing down the Nazgnagôl in what looks like a desperate holding action.

A Fractured Alliance

The political situation is just as bleak as the military one. In Númenor, the island kingdom is on the brink of civil war, too busy fighting itself to offer any meaningful resistance to Sauron. The Dwarves of Khazad-dûm are dealing with a terror of their own making—the Balrog they unearthed while digging for mithril is very much awake, and this season, for the first time, it will speak. In a casting choice that is either brilliant or deeply unsettling, Simon Pegg provides the voice of the fiery demon.

Meanwhile, out east in Rhûn, the wizard Gandalf—finally confirmed as the character Daniel Weyman has been playing all along—is trying to muster whatever wisdom and magic he has to stem the tide. The trailer suggests he is still growing into his role, not yet the confident figure who will one day guide the Fellowship.

New Faces and Old Wounds

The season also brings several key book characters into the fold. Jamie Campbell Bower joins as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, and the trailer teases a reunion that is clearly not simple or easy. Eddie Marsan appears as Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV, while Andrew Richardson plays Anárion, Isildur’s brother and a crucial figure in the last alliance of Men and Elves. Zubin Varla takes on the role of Khamûl the Easterling, one of the future Ringwraiths, and Adam Young plays a mysterious Orc named Marnûkh who may not be what he seems.

The production team remains the same, with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as showrunners and Charlotte Brändström returning to direct. The scale, judging by the trailer, has only grown. The armies look larger, the fortresses more imposing, and the sense of dread more pervasive.

The Release Strategy Is Almost as Bold as the Show

Prime Video is doing something unusual with this season. Rather than stretching the eight episodes over two months, the streamer is dropping them in three rapid-fire blocks. The first four episodes arrive on November 11. Episodes five and six follow on November 18, and the final two episodes land on November 25. That means the entire season will be available to binge-watch in just over two weeks, a strategy that suggests confidence in the show’s ability to generate immediate, concentrated conversation.

For anyone who needs a refresher, all sixteen episodes from the first two seasons are currently streaming on Prime Video. But based on this trailer, the previous seasons were the setup. Season 3 is the payoff, and Middle-earth is running out of places to hide.
