Pogues, prepare for goodbye. Netflix has announced that “Outer Banks Season 5” will be the final season. A few days before the release of the final episodes of Outer Banks Season 4, Netflix stepped up and announced the renewal of the TV series for a fifth, but sadly, final installment. The news was announced in a statement addressed to all the Pogues:
Netflix’s catalog is set to bid farewell to one of its most-viewed and iconic products of recent years. Outer Banks, the TV series centered on teenage adventures and daring treasure hunts, has attracted millions of viewers worldwide since its debut in 2020. The show follows the “Pogues”, a group of kids from the humblest, hardest-working part of the Outer Banks Islands, North Carolina.
Outer Banks Season 5 Release Date and First Look Images Out?
Led by the charismatic John B, these young people find themselves constantly caught up in the search for legendary lost treasures, clashing with the “Kooks”, the faction of the place’s wealthy and privileged residents. The strength of the series has always been its ability to combine the teen drama genre with a strong spirit of old-world adventure, full of mysteries, twists, and unbreakable bonds of friendship. Over the course of the first four seasons, amidst spectacular boat escapes, tormented loves, and deadly dangers around the world, the team faced challenges increasingly greater than their age, transforming the show into a true cultural phenomenon on the streaming platform.
A message released by the streaming platform and written by co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke read: «[When we conceived the series] we imagined a mystery that would take us on a five-season journey filled with adventure, treasure hunts, and friendship. Seven years ago, it seemed impossible to tell the whole story in five seasons, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still on this journey».
Seven years ago, in the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a blackout. That photo inspired an idea for a story about four best friends who want to have fun all the time. From that starting point, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season adventure of treasure hunts and friendship.
At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would actually be able to tell the whole five-season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still chopping away.
The fourth season was the longest and hardest, but also the most rewarding to produce. The season ends with a feature-length episode, which we think is our best and most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same way.
Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting season four behind us and are turning to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.
When Netflix hadn’t yet confirmed anything about the future of the Outer Banks, there was still a very strong possibility that the TV series would return with season five. Not only is the title immensely popular, but the co-creators have always had a clear plan. It seemed, in fact, that the fifth season, and at first also the sixth, could already be scheduled. In early 2023, Josh Pate told Tudum:
We consider the first three [seasons] as a trilogy, and now we are starting a [kind of] new trilogy. We just needed to clean up. We’ll have new villains, a new treasure hunt, and a new life situation.
“Another sort of trilogy”, therefore, could have started with the fourth season and continued until the sixth. Actually, as seen, it will be more of a dilogy, since the fifth will be the final chapter.
As for the plot of Outer Banks Season 5, the end of Season 4 provides the first previews, exactly as was the case with Seasons 3 and 4. Following the loss of JJ, iPogues will seek revenge.
What Outer Banks Season 5: Plot
The plot of Outer Banks Season 5 will immediately pick up from the dramatic events of the season four finale, with the Pogues devastated by the death of JJ Maybank. After losing their friend and seeing the Blue Crown fade as well, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo will find themselves far from home, more vulnerable than ever, and forced to fight on multiple fronts.
On one side, there will be the hunt for Chandler Groff, the man believed to be responsible for the tragedy that befell the group; on the other, new threats posed by Dalia and the Corsairs will loom, while the Kooks will continue to hinder their return to the Outer Banks. To survive and complete their mission, the boys will have to form a fragile alliance with Rafe Cameron, putting aside old grudges.
Between a desire for revenge, new adventures, and the search for a better future, the final season promises to chronicle the Pogues’ most important battle ever: honoring JJ’s memory and finally winning the freedom they’ve been pursuing since the beginning of the series.
Who’s in the Outer Banks Season 5 Cast?
The cast of season five includes Chase Stokes (John B.), Madelyn Cline (Sarah), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Drew Starkey (Rafe), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Austin North (Topper Thornton), Fiona Palomo (Sofia), Pollyanna McIntosh (Dalia), and Mia Challis (Ruthie). The main cast is also joined by Cullen Moss, the face of Sheriff Shoupe since the first season, and J. Anthony Crane as the diabolical Chandler Groff, JJ’s biological father. It’s unclear whether we’ll see each other again for one last time, Rudy Pankow, even if only for a cameo or in a flashback.
Number and Duration of Episodes
Outer Banks has always presented itself to Netflix subscribers with seasons of 10 episodes in total, each lasting about 50 minutes. For this reason, to date we assume that the fifth chapter will also respect the standards established by the previous ones. We will come back to this as soon as we know more.
Outer Banks Season 5 Streaming
Since Outer Banks has been officially confirmed for season 5, Netflix will still host the episodes for streaming, as has been the case with the four already available.
The streaming service could choose to load all episodes in bulk or split a possible fifth chapter into two or more parts. While waiting for further updates, you can catch up on previous seasons.
It is sufficient to make use, if you do not already have it, of a subscription to the service. Unfortunately, Netflix has long since permanently removed the free trial period in Italy.

The first images show the Pogues more united and determined than ever, ready to set out on the trail of Chandler Groff, the man responsible for the events that disrupted the season four finale.
The footage alternates between action scenes, chases, and emotionally charged moments, with John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo determined to get justice for their friend. If in previous seasons the treasure hunt had been the center of the story, this time the mission appears much more personal and dangerous.
Season 5 will be a race against time to avenge JJ and finally settle accounts with Chandler Groff, giving fans a conclusion full of emotion and adrenaline.

The final season, coming to Netflix on August 20, 2026, will conclude the Pogues’ adventure with a final chapter focusing on revenge for JJ’s death and the search for the Blue Crown.
