Empire of Light: Shooting Begins On The New Film By Sam Mendes

According to Deadline , Sam Mendes has started filming his next film, Empire Of Light. Among the stars of the drama produced by Searchlight Pictures are Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Colin Firth, Toby Jones, Crystal Clarke and Tanya Moodie. Empire of Light tells a love story set in an old cinema located on the south coast of England in the 1980s. Filming, which will continue until May, will take place in the town of Margate and along the Kent coast.

Empire of Light Release Date and Crew

Sam Mendes took his time to choose the next project after the acclaimed 1917. The film set during the First World War received 10 Oscar nominations, including one for Best Director. The Skyfall and Specter director will work for the fifth time with director of Roger Deakins, and other 1917 collaborators. These include Naomi Donne, editor Lee Smith, Stuart Wilson, Nina Gold, executive producer Michael Lerman, producer Julie Pastor, co-producer Lola Oliyide, Mark Tildesley and costume designer Alexandra Byrne. Produced by Pippa Harris and Mendes through their Neal Street Productions, Empire of Light is expected to be released in theaters by the end of 2022 by Searchlight.
