She-Hulk: What Happened to Bruce Banner/Hulk’s Arm? The Theories Explained

What period will the She/Hulk series be set in? What exactly happened to the Hulk's arm? The answers to these and other questions in this article.

Disney Plus Day on November 12, 2021 showed fans a short teaser trailer of the new Marvel Studios TV series She-Hulk. The show centers on the character of Jennifer Walters or the lawyer cousin of Bruce Banner aka Hulk (played by Tatiana Maslany). It seems that Professor Hulk will teach Jennifer how to use “her anger”, but it is not shown how the lawyer will become the “green woman”: it will be like in the comics and that is with a blood transfusion from Banner to her or it will happen in a different way? Beyond that, one of the most confusing aspects of this promotional video is that Professor Hulk has his right arm intact and healed than he did in Avengers: Endgame, after using the Infinity Stones.

What happened to Bruce Banner

What Happened to Bruce Banner/Hulk’s Arm?

With a brief summary I will illustrate the timeline linked to Professor Hulk’s injury and to follow I will try to expose two theories that would explain a recovery that was thought to be irreversible, as stated by the Russo directors.

  • In the 5 years between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Bruce Banner and the Hulk become one, or Professor Hulk
  • In Avengers: Endgame Professor Hulk uses the 6 Infinity Stones and seriously injures his right arm
  • In the scene of the credits of the film Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings we see Bruce Banner (with grizzled hair) again with his human form but with a brace on his right arm still injured
  • In the She / Hulk teaser trailer Professor Hulk returns again but he has no brace on his arm

Now The Possibilities In My Opinion Are 2:

The first is that the scenes of the TV series with Professor Hulk are set between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. If so, fans could also witness Bruce Banner’s experiments to join the green monster and, of course, the origins of She / Hulk. The show should still be set in the present day of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the scenes with Professor Hulk “intact” would be considered flashbacks.

The second possibility is that the blood transfusion that turned Jennifer into She / Hulk worked in two directions and thus benefited Professor Hulk’s arm. My idea is that – as opposed to what happens in the comics – on the show Jennifer will lend herself to a blood transfusion to heal her cousin, but something will go wrong and the Hulk’s green blood will contaminate that of the lawyer. That way she could become She/Hulk.

If this second theory were confirmed it would remain a doubt: if Professor Hulk heals in the present of the MCU, why does Bruce Banner have his human form in Shang-Chi and his arm has a brace?

The answer may be much simpler than expected: Banner had decided to join the Hulk following the ugly defeat inflicted on him by Thanos, both as the Hulk and as Banner. But now the Mad Titan has been defeated and Bruce may have decided to return to his human form but this may need more time to heal . In fact, in Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings, the arm is shown to be on the mend: Bruce Banner has a brace but no longer has all those bruises seen on Professor Hulk’s arm.

Bruce Banner

Another point in favor of this second theory, namely that She / Hulk is set entirely in the present of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that Professor Hulk “must” necessarily heal and return to the “really angry” form if he is to face his former enemy Abomination. which is known to return after the appearance in Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings.
