Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained: What Happened in the Finale?

Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained: Much of the curiosity surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine comes from the prospect of the first’s official debut in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). This aspect, specifically, is central to the start of the events at the base of the film and its ending. Continuing to read this article means coming across heavy spoilers both on the main plot of Deadpool & Wolverine and, above all, on its ending and what it could mean. Precisely because of all these reasons, we advise you not to continue if you have not seen the film at the cinema. The plot at the center of Deadpool & Wolverine is certainly not among the simplest, linear, or predictable, yet it convinces and captures thanks to a writing that is always over the top and careful to remain firmly connected with the audience in the theater. The ending of the feature film also works like this. Although it is quite hasty, it helps consolidate some balances within a story that, perhaps, could return to being talked about with the same incorrect experimentalism we have seen on the big screen. It’s not an unpredictable sequence, but still consistent with the verve of a film that never shuts up.

Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained: What Happens in the Deadpool & Wolverine Finale?

The core of the Deadpool & Wolverine adventure is the concept of the multiverse, which is extremely familiar to current MCU fans. Specifically, the chatty mercenary will find himself dealing directly with the division of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) led by Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen). His plan is to make the Deadpool timeline that we know disappear as soon as possible, to obtain greater power within the company in question, to become its top. To do this, Paradox uses, behind the backs of his superiors, a machine that serves precisely to speed up the aforementioned erasure process: the Time Ripper. In the finale of Deadpool & Wolverine, however, we see the destructive and unpredictable contribution of Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), Charles Xavier’s forgotten twin, abandoned and raised inside the Void, join this equation. The pain she drags inside and a series of choices made by others that she does not share will lead her to choose to exploit the machine to reset the universe, recalibrating it to its origins.

When the entire multiverse is on the brink of a general collapse, Deadpool & Wolverine will play all the cards at their disposal, even sacrificing their own lives to stop once and for all the Time Ripper in the hands of Cassandra Nova. Their courage will cancel the woman’s plans, until she is completely disintegrated, in a final twist that initially makes us fear the worst for them, and then reassures us in this sense. The result of the gesture will save the balance of the multiverse, also establishing the presence of Wolverine in the Deadpool universe. Such a choice, obviously, in addition to provoking Marvel fans of all time (we talked about it in our review of Wolverine & Deadpool), seems to wink at hypothetical future projects with the two characters in question, effectively formalizing the importance of the mercenary not only on a micro level but also on a macro level.

What Happens In The Deadpool & Wolverine Post-Credit Scene?

The post-credit scene (at the end of the credits) and/or mid-credit scene (about halfway through) is a historic tradition for MCU films. With more than one purpose: 1) to keep the audience in the theater while the names of the people who worked on the film scroll on the screen, as a sign of gratitude and respect, 2) to anticipate narrative arcs, 3) to introduce new characters and 4) to present new realities. Sometimes, the scene has a more basic, self-deprecating, and dramatizing function. In the case of Deadpool & Wolverine there is only one and post-credit, that is, at the end of the credits. The irreverent humor is that signed by Ryan Reynolds. Let’s see what happens.

Deadpool returns to TVA headquarters to protect his good name. During the film, Johnny Thunder/Human Torch (Chris Evans) is torn to pieces by Cassandra Nova: using her mental powers, she stripped him of his skin. The punishment was a response to the torrent of insults and obscenities that Johnny had addressed to her and that, mind you, she had not had the opportunity to hear personally; it was Deadpool who had reported them, while poor Johnny vehemently (and in vain) denied it. In the post-credit scene, Deadpool asks for the intervention of the VAR (his words) and submits to the audience a recording made by closed-circuit cameras of his conversation with Johnny: it turns out that Human Torch had seriously said those things to Cassandra. Deadpool, satisfied and contemptuous, leaves the theater. Not the most enlightening post-credit scene, but it is unlikely that you will ever hear so many vulgarities coming out of the mouth of Chris Evans.
