The Last of Us Season 2: Kaitlyn Dever Will Be Abby In The Second Season Of The Series

The Last of Us Season 2 has finally officially found its Abby! The character will be played by Kaitlyn Dever. The actress, represented by UTA and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan, will play Abby, described by HBO as a skilled soldier whose black-and-white worldview is tested as she seeks revenge for those she loved. Months ago, some rumors about the casting for the second season of The Last of Us saw Kaitlyn Dever, a young North American actress recently seen in the sci-fi thriller “No One Will Save You”. Well, today HBO, Max, and Sky officially confirm the indiscretion, also anticipating that this is only the first of a series of themed announcements.

The Last of Us Season 2: Kaitlyn Dever Will Be Abby

Abigail Anderson, known as Abby, is as already mentioned a fundamental character of the second video game and was able to split the fandom in two due to her being a rather controversial element in the story. In the official statement, she is defined as “a skilled soldier whose dichotomous worldviews come into conflict as she seeks revenge for her loved ones“. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (i.e. the executive producers, co-creators of the series, screenwriters, and main directors – and let’s remember, Druckmann is also the creator of the characters and directed the video games) commented on the announcement as follows:

Our casting process for season 2 was identical to that for season 1: we search for world-class actors who embody the soul of the characters present in the source of origin. It’s all about talent, and we’re thrilled to have an artist as acclaimed as Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of the family.

The message seems to want to prevent a new wave of controversy like those that spread following the announcement of the interpreters of the first season, guilty according to a (rather caustic) part of the fandom of not being similar in appearance to the original characters of the video game: and Dever has some decidedly sweeter than the videogame Abby, as well as less physically imposing… but nothing that can be defined as neither more nor less than the superhero roles of recent years. Moreover, the controversies were swept away by the excellent performances of the cast, who perfectly portrayed (if not improved) the original characters.
