Growing up in Boston, I’d always heard of the Strangler in a very abstract sense, but I didn’t know anything about the details of the case and I started researching it a few years ago. I uncovered a really fascinating and layered serial killer story,” he says. “ I have always loved journalism stories and in researching the case I discovered these two journalists, starting with Loretta McLaughlin, the first journalist to connect the murders and who named the Boston Strangler in her report. It was a truly monumental story for her career in the early 1960s. She was a very ambitious reporter in a male-dominated industry, and this was a real turning point for her“.

The Boston Strangler later identified as Albert DeSalvo committed thirteen murders in the city of Boston between 1962 and 1964. The women were killed raped and strangled all in the same manner. DeSalvo was later arrested for other crimes and jailed on assault and rape charges. The mystery behind the true identity of the strangler remains a mystery even if DeSalvo himself had reported himself to the authorities. The cast is full of quality supporting actors. Alessandro Nivola, David Dastmalchian, Morgan Spector, Bill Camp and Chris Cooper came aboard the project, which was filmed in Boston. Ruskin revealed the practical difficulties of shooting on location, but he was pleased with the end result.
