The most awaited Bollywood movie Jawan finally landed in theaters with a bang. Shahrukh Khan’s many stunning looks, raw action, solid star cast, and a splash of swag… the trailer of Jawan had everything that fills a staunch Indian cinema fan with excitement to go to the theatre. After finally going to the theater after a long wait, one feels that the duo of Shahrukh and director Atlee has delivered even more than what they had shown. Shahrukh’s killer looks, action scenes, and emotions set the screen on fire in Jawan. But there are many such things in the story of the film that will appeal to you not only as a viewer but also as a citizen of this country. There is so much story in the script of Jawan in the first 45 minutes itself, which many a time does not get even after spending the full three hours in masala films.

A conspiracy is hatched against a soldier who is trying to expose an arms dealer who is hollowing the country from within. He is accused of being a traitor. His wife gets dizzy and falls from the gallows in his prison. It turns out she is pregnant. According to the rules, a woman cannot be hanged after the birth of her child until she is five years old. A child is born in jail. The child also gets a new mother. The day is Janmashtami. Shah Rukh Khan’s new film ‘Jawan’ has been released. The story is similar to today’s Vasudev Devki’s son. But, there is much more that Shahrukh Khan has said in this film, which is also a commentary on the current politics of the country by a conscious producer, an excellent director, and an accomplished actor. A new wave of viewers coming to the seven o’clock morning show with their families has started. This is the real magic of first ‘Pathan‘, then ‘Gadar 2‘, and now Jawan is becoming a celebration from the very first day of its release.

Combining the in-your-face maximalism of director Atlee, and the come-get-me grizzled slit-eyed sexiness of star Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan is a pop-masala banger: iss kahani mein action hai, emotion hai, hero hai, villain hai, aur naach-gaana hai, aur kya chahiye? Actually, there is more: fashioned as an unabashed massy entertainer, ‘Jawan’ slips in strong political messaging at every opportunity, making it a film which is very much of the moment.

Jawan is a big screen spectacle. It is flawed but at a time where everything is over analysed, it makes for a good time at the cinemas. Ready or not, this is a ride that’s definitely worth taking.

Jawan is an exemplary homage to both Indian and Western action flicks that inundated the industries in the early nineties. The movie could well be on its way to replicate what Top Gun Maverick did to an ailing Hollywood, in Bollywood. Slick action sequences, paired with romance, filial affections and some amazing music makes Jawan a perfect watch. That, paired with a double dose of Shah Rukh Khan is well worth the money. Spoiler alert! There is no Thalapathy Vijay and Sanjay Dutt’s cameo will blow your minds! Jawan 2 coming

Shah Rukh Khan impresses with his dual performance in Atlee’s first Hindi directorial venture. This action-packed spectacle hits all the right marks, paying homage to the action blockbusters of the 1990s while embracing contemporary Southern cinema aesthetics. Nevertheless, Jawan’s true essence lies in its celebration of the iconic Shah Rukh Khan. When you introduce Nayanthara as a formidable action heroine into the mix, you’ve got a definite triumph on your hands.

All said and done, Jawan will always be remembered for Atlee’s extraordinary way of giving Shah Rukh Khan a befitting tribute, proving why he’s, for all reasons, ‘the last of the stars’.
