Created by Darren Star as Sex and the City And Just Like That… represents a continuation of the latter, a revival that in some respects looks like a brand new series. Produced for 6 seasons from 1998 to 2004 and after two films released in 2008 and 2010, Sex and the City entered the history of television for having cleared sex, showing and talking about it, for the first time, as no one had ever done before at that moment. Inspired by the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell, the story is told by the protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) who, with her three friends Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) , Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) lives and works as a journalist and writer in glittering New York , the fifth protagonist of the saga.

The central theme has always been the sexual and romantic life of girls, as well as their friendship. In And Just Like That…, we find the latter – although Samantha is not present – with Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda in their fifties and struggling with the problems of their age: Carrie has reinvented herself by working on a podcast about sex, Miranda is studying for improve and have a teenage son, while Charlotte tries to be the perfect wife and mother to her two (now) girls.

Eleven years after Sex and the City 2 we find Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte more united than ever, while Samantha moved to London after an argument with Carrie who fired her as a publicist for her books. Carrie is happily married to Mr. Big/John (Chris Noth) and is doing an LGBTQ+ friendly podcast alongside Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) non-binary and bisexual stand-up comedian. Miranda is back to study to take a Masters in Human Rights and Charlotte – as mentioned before – as always, she thinks about taking care of her family.

Due to Willie Garson’s death, the Stanford character was moved to Japan with a client of his, a famous singer on TitkTok touring there, after filing for divorce from Anthony (Mario Cantone). Over the course of the season, Miranda realizes that her marriage to Steve (David Eigenberg) has ended when she begins a relationship with Che and decides to ask him for a divorce, while Charlotte and Harry (Evan Handler) face the fact that daughter Rose (Alexa Swinton) don’t consider yourself a girl – but non-binary – and decide to be called Rock.

In any case, the most important storyline is, of course, that of Carrie who already from the first episode 1 Hello It’s Me, loses the love of her life: while she is out, Big has a heart attack and dies, leaving the woman in complete desperation. Over the course of the episodes, Carrie deals with grief, decides to move into her old apartment, sells the Fifth Avenue house and buys a new apartment, but again decides to return to where she is truly happy: her home.

Spurred on by her editor, to make the upcoming new book about her life as a widow a little more interesting, she starts dating a man known on the Internet, Peter (Jon Tenney), for whom she can’t prove anything.

The Final Episode Of And Just Like That: Seeing the Light

In the season finale of And Just Like That …, Episode 10-Seeing the Light , Carrie begins to believe that John is sending her signs because, probably, annoyed that his wife has decided to go out with men again: the lamplight comes on by itself several times and for Carrie – although Miranda is skeptical – it is John trying to communicate with her.

Meanwhile, Charlotte finds a trans rabbi to officiate Rock’s “They Mitzvah” in the end, however, everything is canceled, because the latter refuses not wanting to be labeled in any way and Charlotte decides to have her own Bat Mitzvah, taking the place of her daughter.

Che is offered to shoot the pilot of a TV series and asks Miranda to go to Los Angeles together at this point, Miranda refuses the internship she had worked so hard for and decides to finish the semester remotely, amazing both Carrie and Charlotte.

Leaving Che podcast, Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez) proposes to Carrie that she have a podcast of her own in which to give advice to the public. Although she has had the lamp fixed, it continues to light up by itself: one night, just as the lamp comes on again, Carrie dreams that Big wishes to be in Paris; so, the woman decides to scatter her ashes – one year after her death – in the Seine.

After finally finding peace by closing a circle, Carrie writes to Samantha that she agrees to drink with her. Back in the Big Apple, Carrie starts working on the podcast “Sex and the City” – which turns out to be a real success – and, in the last scene she kisses Franklyn in the elevator…

What To Expect From The Possible Season 2 Of And Just Like That? What We Know So Far

Born as a miniseries, And Just Like That… proved to be a real hit for HBO Max, despite – in some respects – disappointing historical fans of Sex and The City. Sarah Jessica Parker has already expressed her willingness to return for a second season.

Of course, that would be a way to find out what the new chapter in Carrie’s life holds – Peter, Franklyn, or someone else? – How will things go for Miranda – will she stay with Che or will she come back with Steve? -and how Charlotte will continue to manage her family life with teenagers.

We know that Carrie and Samantha have, by now, made up – they met in an off-screen scene – but it’s very unlikely that Kim Cattrall will make an appearance in season 2 of And Just Like That …: apart from the bad relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker and the others, during the weeks in which the revival aired, he often liked tweets that harshly criticized him, hinting at his opinion.

When asked if the door is open for Kim, showrunner Michael Patrick King – formerly at the helm of the two films – interviewed by Variety replied:

No, Kim wouldn’t be attending And Just Like That…, because she said what she said. […] I have no realistic expectation that Kim Cattrall will reappear.

Sarah Jessica Parker also admitted that it would be difficult to have her on set by now, given how much she has shared – in a negative way – publicly in recent years about their relationship and the show. Anyway, to Sex and the City fans her move to London seemed a bit forced and strange: Samantha believed New York was the only city in the world where it was worth living and hardly she would have interrupted contacts too With Charlotte and Miranda only because Carrie had been forced to fire her.

In the second season of And Just Like That…, the new characters of Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman) , Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) could be promoted to regular. Also hard to believe to see Chris Noth again, considering that his last scenes. In the season finale have been cut, following allegations of sexual assault (although there is no evidence, yet of his guilt).

Unfortunately, Willie Garson’s untimely death has upset plans for the Stanford character but, probably, he will continue to be talked about. As reported by Screen Rant , the initial plans included a deeper look into his life and career.

As for other historical characters in the series, Aidan was thought to return in the first cycle of episodes – as John Corbett had implied – but screenwriters Julie Rottenberg , Elisa Zuritsky and Rottenburg made it clear – on People – that an appearance of his was never been scheduled (which is why it is not known whether this might change in the future or not).

What is certain, however, is that HBO Max boss Casey Bloys revealed that And Just Like That… was the online streaming platform’s most successful series; difficult, therefore, to believe that it will be let go so easily, although there is still no official confirmation of a renewal.
