There have been many such love stories in Hindi cinema, in which love is being sacrificed in the name of honor, dignity, false pride, tradition and prestige or in which the love is on honor killing. Sometimes love gets the destination, sometimes love dies before reaching the destination. The complexity of Indian society has been brought to the screen through these love stories and as long as this complexity is there, filmmakers will get a chance to show them. Only the way of telling the story keeps changing. Sometimes a ‘tragic love story’ becomes for each other and sometimes ‘Happy Ending’ Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Among all such love stories is the film 14 Phere, which has a tinge of comedy through the maneuvers of a loving couple to get married amidst societal complexities.

14 Phere Review: Story?

Aditi Karwasda (Kriti Kharbanda) is the senior of Sanjay Lal Singh (Vikrant Massey). In college, the two fall in love. After completion of studies, they also work in the same MNC in Delhi and live in live-in. Want to get married, but their conservative families are the biggest obstacle in the way. Sanjay belongs to the Rajput family of Bihar. Aditi hails from a Jat family of Rajasthan. Sanjay’s father Kanhaiyalal Singh (Vineet Kumar) is a Bahubali of Jehanabad. The local police dance to his behest. Aditi of Jat family is from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Her father Dharampal Karwasda (Govind Pandey) is an old nobleman and businessman. The threat of the princely states is clearly visible in the way of living and ethics.

For both families, tradition and prestige are more important than the happiness of children. Killing honor for the sake of honor is a minor thing for both the families. In such an impossible situation, Aditi tries to persuade Sanjay to shift to America. He believes that it will be easy for both of them to get married and settle in America. But Sanjay is not ready. He does not want to leave his mother alone in his domineering family.

A lover of theatre, Sanjay finally finds a solution to this problem in the theater itself. Sanjay, along with Aditi, plans to introduce each other’s families to fake parents. For this, two theater artists are sought. A Veteran theater artist Amay (Jameel Khan) is sought out to play the father. Sanjay convinces his theater group actress Zubina (Gauhar Khan) to play the role of mother. These two actors first meet Aditi’s family by becoming Sanjay’s parents and confirm the relationship there and then by becoming Aditi’s parents, they make a relationship with Sanjay’s parents.

Like the fake parents, fake relatives are also groomed, who are Sanjay and Aditi’s office colleagues. The subsequent story encapsulates the dramatic developments of Sanjay and Aditi getting married in Bihar and Jaipur and during this time. The interesting developments that begin between the two main characters and their families as a result of these two marriages make this serious story light-hearted and comical. The dialogues have been kept practical. Despite the seriousness of the subject, the film does not preach. Doesn’t do big things. The important thing is that the humor emanates from the situation rather than the dialogues.

The film does not waste time in showing romance scenes or songs between the two main characters. Comes straight to the point and once she picks up the pace, she runs away. The events that take place in the meantime keep the spectators tickling. The climax of this romantic-comedy film is predictable, but the way the scenes take turns, the thrill remains till the end.

14 Phere Review: Review

14 Phere keeps the viewer entangled in the fabric of two weddings one after the other and moves at a fast pace. The film has tightness, and the direction is also good. You may get a little confused at some places, but the matter does not get confused. Vikrant Massey and Kriti Khabaranda carry the entire film on their shoulders. In the last one-and-a-half years, Vikrant has made a special mark on OTT. He has been working continuously to increase the number of his fans.

The film follows the track of marriage talks from beginning to end. It was not here and there. In traditional families, the opposition to the marriage of boys and girls in another caste or religion emerges openly here. Sanjay’s sister has already run away from home after a love marriage, so Aditi’s father is afraid that if his younger daughter Swati goes far away from Jaipur to Calcutta, she may get out of hand. She feels the reins of daughter Aditi, who has gone to Delhi, because Jaipur is not very far from Delhi.

One of the best things about the film is that there is a song for almost every scene. Twice marriages, different songs for her, different songs for wedding preparations and even when Sanjay and Aditi have a fight, you still get music. At the same time, these songs are not so loud that the scene gets suppressed and not so slow that you get cooked. Apart from this, the character of Vikrant has been written so cute that you will fall in love with him. Sanjay is not only a good boyfriend but also a good son and brother. Not wanting to go abroad because mother will be left alone… There are other aspects too. Apart from all this, the film also touches on the issue of honor killing at the end.

14 Phere Review: Performances

After Haseen Dillruba, Vikrans Massey has once again appeared in tremendous form. In that film, Vikrant had done papad after getting married, in this film he is seen rolling papad to get married. Kriti Kharbanda, who became Aditi, suits her character.

Talking about acting, the star cast of the film is quite impressive. Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda look great. Be it romance and comedy or emotional melodrama; Both the actors win hearts with their gestures. At the same time, Gauahar Khan, who became ‘Delhi’s Meryl Streep’, looks tremendous. I wish the director could give her character a little more screen space. The rest of the cast including Jameel Khan, Vineet Kumar, Yamini Das, Priyanshu Singh have also done justice to their roles.

14 Phere

Jameel Khan and Gauahar Khan have contributed equally in making the comic sequences of the film effective. The responsibility fell on both of them also because they had to play the characters of Rajasthani and Bihari parents, for which control over language and pronunciation was very important in the dialogue delivery, in which Jameel and Gauahar did not disappoint.

After Haseen Dillruba, Yamini Das has once again become Vikrant’s onscreen mother, but this time her character is completely different. Haseen Dillruba’s talkative mother fell silent this time, which she has played very well. Rest of the actors have also done their part well. The credit also goes to director Devanshu Singh, who did not allow the actors to go out of the realm of their characters.

Direction and Technical Aspects

Devanshu Singh has directed the film, Seeing the direction of the film, you will not feel anything too out-of-the-box or too spectacular, although at the same time you will not say that something is faded. According to the script, Devanshu’s work is also good. On the other hand, if we talk about the actors, then Vikrant Massey is a fine artist and once again he has shown his acting skills. Kriti, on the other hand, is a little pale in front of Vikrant, but you will not feel like this again and again. Apart from Vikrant and Kriti, Gauahar Khan had to show most of the over acting in her character Zubina, so she has shown that. Apart from this, Jameel Khan has also been seen doing justice to the character. Along with this, Yamini Das, playing the character of Sanjay’s real mother Saralal Singh, is less visible, but looks very cute.

The music of the film is fine. The credits force Rolls to dance the song. The cinematography and design department has done the work of enhancing the brightness of the film’s visuals. 14 Phere is the perfect film for the OTT platform and does not disappoint on the entertainment front.

14 Phere Review: The Last Words

You will have a smile on your face while watching a movie of about 2 hours. At the same time, some scenes will touch your heart too. One of the best things about the film is that no attempt has been made to forcefully keep it long. In such a situation, you can definitely watch this film with your family.
