Shahmaran Season 1 Ending Explained: What Happened With Shahsu and Maran? Who is Davut?

A brand-new Turkish series Shahmaran arrived on Netflix directed by Umur Turagay. Among the advantages of streaming platforms, of the giant Netflix, there is allowing its subscribers to enjoy products from all over the world; films and TV series that talk about different cultures and with which it would otherwise be difficult to get in touch. As we will see in this Shahmaran review, the Turkish series directed by Umur Turagay drags us into the folklore of a distant country, showing us a rather fascinating reality in its way; the construction of the story, however, is far too slow, and cryptic to involve those who do not know this historical and cultural context.

Legends have long been a rich source of inspiration for movies, series, and even soap operas (to speak our language a little more). Recently, a Netflix production has made a name for itself by connecting a past legend with current times, the Turkish mystery thriller series Shahmaran. The series tells the story of Sashu, a young woman who travels to the mysterious city of Adana for a lecture and also to find out a little about her past. She wants to confront her grandfather, Davut, to find out what made him abandon his mother years before.

Upon his arrival in the new community, his life starts to turn upside down and acquires a more supernatural connotation. This is because the young woman begins to have strange feelings and dreams, which may be linked to an ancient divine legend in which she is inserted. Everything gets even stronger when she approaches the mysterious Maran, with whom she ends up falling in love. At the end of the series, he explains to her who she is and why the two are connected, revealing that the young woman is promised a kind of sacrifice that will save humanity.

Shahmaran Season 1: The Story

Sahsu (Serenay Sarıkaya) is a brilliant young psychology Ph.D. student, still reeling from the grief of losing her mother. Called to the University of Adana for a conference, the woman decides to get back in touch with her elderly grandfather: Sahsu soon gets to know Maran (Burak Deniz) and her family, the neighbors who seem to be hiding many secrets. Maran is immediately particularly attracted to the young woman but is reluctant to let go of her nascent feeling as if something fatal were linked to what he is starting to feel for her.

Over time, Sahsu will find herself increasingly entangled in a thousand-year-old mystery, in a prophecy that has to do with the legendary Shamaran, the snake woman who once gave her life, wisdom and powers to the man she loved. What lurks in the shadows and is getting closer and closer to Shasu? Who is the mysterious creature “that must not be named” who would like to harm the protagonist?

Shahmaran Season 1 Ending Explained: Who is Davut? Will Shahsu and Maran Die?

Their lives are directly related to Shahmaran, which was mentioned a few times during the series before being revealed by Maran to the protagonist. With the revelation, she discovers that Shahmaran was a half-human and half-snake mystical creature, who lived since his birth isolated from humans in a cave and did not even know of their existence. That is until she meets a young man named Camasb, a kind of thief who ends up getting trapped in the cave while trying to steal some goods. With no way out, he decides to explore the place and ends up getting lost, getting further and further away from the exit and closer to the mystical depths of the place.

It is there that he ends up meeting Shahmaran, who lives in a beautiful chamber full of flowers and snakes, a very beautiful place that has our mystical being living peacefully at the center with other creatures. After some interaction between her and Camasb, the two end up falling madly in love. During their time together, Shahmaran teaches his partner all about flowers and also how to make powerful medicines with them. However, the story seems to come to an end when Camasb decides to leave, promising her not to reveal his location to anyone when he returns to the outside world.

However, Camasb is tempted to break his promise when the king of the region is affected by a terrible disease. Then, it is revealed that the only medicine to save him is ingesting flash, which is the body part of a Shahmaran. With that, he ends up delivering the location of the creature he was once in love with. After the incident, Camasb began to suffer a lot from the death of his great love, especially considering that what he did was a kind of betrayal. He tried to kill himself a few times to end his suffering, but gained immortality after Shahmaran died, which prevented him from carrying out the act.

Shahmaran still has the presence of a character called Lilith, who is already a mythological being well known outside even the legend present in the series. She is the sister of the creature, a demon, and the first woman who ever existed, having been created even before Eve. Lilith was trapped by Shahmaran in the past in a well, to keep her rage contained. However, when Lilith realized that her sister was killed, she saw that a great opportunity for her freedom was opened and her life goal was to escape her prison and destroy all humanity.

A prophecy has been fulfilled after the long years that have passed since Shahmaran’s death, and legend has it that when it is fulfilled, Lilith will finally escape. But there is a way to prevent this from happening, and it depends directly on the relationship between Sashu and Maran, in the present. The only way to prevent this is for a descendant of Shahmaran and a chosen human descendant of Camasb to fall in love. The big problem is that, just like in the past, one of the two will be sacrificed, and this time it’s the human who will give his life to save all the other men.

The revelation that Maran is not fully human came just as Sashu’s grandfather suffered a heart attack. Maran used his fangs to bite Davut, which shocked the young woman and led him to tell the whole prophecy and reveal their role in this story. Another shocking revelation is that Sahsu’s grandfather is, in fact, Camasb. Immortal, he lives until today and continues to proliferate his offspring for humanity. Realizing that he is indeed a direct descendant of the human who facilitated Shahmaran’s death, she is frightened by the revelations and runs away.

At the end of the series, Maran and Sahsu seem to be really in love, which is enough for the entire prophecy involving Lilith to be fulfilled and for the demon to be able to escape from prison. Sashsu, in turn, discovers that she also has abilities, which is decisive for the end of the season. The ending, of course, is pretty open-ended and paves the way for an upcoming season. We want to know if Maran and Sashsu will do something to circumvent the prophecy that the young woman has to die or if, to avenge her ancestor, he will give her up for sacrifice to save the rest of humanity.
