That ’90s Show Netflix spin-off from the 2000s classic That ’70s Show, follows Leia, daughter of Eric and Donna, who after a brief visit with her grandparents Red and Kitty Forman, meets Gwen Runck and her group of friends and decides to spend the summer in Point Place, Wisconsin, where her parents grew up. Eric disagrees with his daughter’s resolution because he had planned for them to go to space camp together, but after talking with Donna, he agrees to let her stay. Meanwhile, Red expresses her concern about dealing with teenagers again, and Kitty is excited to have her granddaughter near her.
Eager to impress her friends, Leia sets out on a search for the perfect movie for movie night, which leads her to have a little adventure with her grandmother. Although the meeting doesn’t turn out as she had planned, her new friends show her that she doesn’t have to work hard to belong to the group.
That ’90s Show: The Story Plot
We are in 1995. Leia, the only daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti, is a smart girl from Chicago but full of insecurities. At the time we meet her, her priority is to separate from a loving father who would like her with him in a strange summer space camp. How could she ever participate if her dream is to find a boyfriend and thus have the perfect summer? The solution is at hand. Heading to Point Place, Wisconsin, to visit her paternal grandparents, Leia meets Gwen and her brother Nate, two nice peers with so many things to say.
So, he decides to stay there and spend the summer with them and their chosen circle which includes Nikki, Nate’s girlfriend, Jay, an irresistible heartthrob, and Ozzie. Thus, having overcome her father’s resistance, Leia prepares to experience the perfect summer. Those of the first love, the first kiss, and the first truly great friendships, remain throughout her life. And when it’s time for her to return to Chicago, she will finally be able to think back to the days spent in her grandparents’ tavern. Between weed and movie marathons, junk food and Coca-Cola. And to think that Red and Kitty had sworn never to open their doors to teenagers and the like (adorable liars).
That ‘90s Show Ending Explained
In the first season of That ‘90s Show, Leia shares some secrets with her friends, for example, that she has not had her first kiss yet. To resolve the latter, Ozzie and Gwen take Donna’s daughter to the mall, but she can’t get close to any boys, so they look for Jay instead. However, the son of Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) and Jackie Burkhart (Mila Kunis) tells Leia that he prefers not to force anything between them and that if they ever kiss, he wants it to be special. From that moment, it becomes clear that they both like each other, but who will make the first move?
On the recommendation of their friends, they both wait for the other to make the first move, but when that doesn’t happen things get a bit complicated. In the end, Eric’s daughter prefers that they just be friends. Although Jay, being a Kelso, doesn’t know how to deal with this situation and is very confused, he calms down when he meets another young woman. Leia tries to confess her feelings to Jay but discovers that she is seeing someone else. To show that her news doesn’t affect her, she invites the new couple to her birthday party, which she doesn’t enjoy waiting for Jay, who appears at her bedroom window and kisses her.
From that moment on, “That ’90s Show” mainly focuses on red accepting Jay as his granddaughter’s boyfriend. Michael’s son tries to prove he’s responsible but can’t stop Kitty from getting a tattoo while she’s under anesthesia. When Grandpa Forman finally accepts the romance, another problem presents itself: the end of the holidays.
The End of Summer
With her summer at Point Place drawing to a close, Leia is undecided about whom to spend her time with. Relying too much on her luck, she doesn’t cancel her plans with her best friend and her boyfriend. Of course, she only manages to disappoint both of them. As Gwen hides her sadness at her friend’s departure under her anger, Jay wonders if her relationship with Leia can overcome the distance and decides it’s best to break up with her. Before he can talk to his girlfriend, Nate talks about it at the going-away party and ruins everything.
After patching things up with her best friend, Leia has a very candid talk with Nate. Both feel so identified that they almost kiss. Is this a problem for the second season of That ‘90s Show? Before heading back to Chicago, Leia says goodbye to her friends and Jay shows up to tell her that she wants to give their relationship a chance. Does that mean they got back together? Will their romance survive until the next vacation?
