Yellowjackets Season 3: Release Date Is Too Late Coming Later Than Expected

Backers of the Yellowjackets series will have to wait longer than expected to see the Yellowjackets Season 3 premiere, with news that its release has been pushed back to 2025, Deadline reports. The report points out that these delays are attributable to decisions made by the writers and actors last year. These strikes are affecting all film and television productions, so while a prolonged waiting period isn’t completely unexpected, the news will certainly be disappointing for fans who were hoping for new episodes later this year. With the series debuting in 2021 and producing a second season in 2023, a disappointing trend emerges that requires fans to wait two years between seasons, as opposed to the more typical year.

Yellowjackets, written by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, is a mix of survival, horror, and coming-of-age drama. The plot follows a team of talented high school soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash in the wild depths of Ontario. The series explores their transformation from a complex, yet prosperous team to a cannibalistic clan, while also following the lives they try to rebuild nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never truly buried and that what began in the wild is far from over.

Statements from the Creator of Yellowjackets

Unlike other ongoing productions affected by strikes, the creators have provided relatively encouraging updates on the status of the series. During a recent event about the series, Ashley Lyle shared, “We’re immersed in writing. Everyone came back incredibly excited, eager to get started, and creatively reinvigorated… We’re having a lot of fun and we’re very excited”.

However, despite these reassurances, fans will face a long period of waiting, considering that the scale of production is smaller than projects like House of the Dragon or The Last of Us, leaving them hoping for quicker production of episodes. Furthermore, given the very intricate plots of the narrative, it will be essential for audiences to review the first two seasons before the arrival of the third, to readily grasp the numerous complex subplots in which they will be immersed.

Yellowjackets Season 3: When will Season 3 Come Out

The news comes from the Deadline portal according to which season 3 will not arrive before 2025. The delay was mainly due to the writers’ strike which had blocked the development and writing of the series. Yellowjackets was also nominated for the 2024 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, but the award went to Succession.

The cast is divided into two groups of actors who play the protagonists in different timelines. The young survivors of 1996 are represented by Sophie NélisseJasmin Savoy BrownSophie ThatcherSamantha HanrattyLiv Hewson, and Courtney Eaton. Their modern-day counterparts are played by Melanie LynskeyTawny CypressJuliette LewisChristina RicciLauren Ambrose, and Simone Kessell.

What Can We Expect From Yellowjackets Season 3?

The outcome of the second part of Yellowjackets opened a range of speculations about the direction the story will take in future chapters. The drama intensified with the cabin fire, an event that seems to have its origin in the actions of Coach Ben, leaving the women’s team trapped and at the mercy of the harsh winter. As survival becomes more complicated, significant movements occur in the group dynamic, such as Natalie being appointed leader, a decision that generates discontent in Shauna. Meanwhile, the present is no less tense. An encounter at Lottie’s shelter leads the adult characters to a dangerous manhunt where Shauna is the target. Among the surprises of the script, we see Lisa and Misty involved in an incident with a shotgun that ends in a fatal tragedy. The fate of Shauna and her family is also left in suspense after the murder of the detective in charge of a crucial case, which triggers false accusations and manipulations.
