Who is Superior Iron Man? Here Everything About Variant You Watched In Doctor Strange Trailer
While watching the Doctor Strange Trailer in the Multiverse of Madness we saw a long list of cameos including a variant of Tony Stark called Superior Iron Man. But what do we know about this evil version of the genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist we’ve come to love over so many years of the MCU?
Let’s find out more about the role Superior Iron Man may have in the sequel, the powers of this variant and its place in the secret society, the Illuminati. Immediately below we also report the frame taken from the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is generating speculations on the possible role of Tom Cruise in the role of Superior Iron Man.
Who is Superior Iron Man?
Doctor Strange 2 will be radically based on the concept of the Multiverse and the existence of variants of the various characters we love, an idea already introduced for the first time in the TV series Loki and What If…? Therefore, this situation also makes possible a variant of Tony Stark or Iron Man who is supposed to be precisely the well-known Superior Iron Man. Or rather, this variant of Iron Man is known first as an antagonist in the Marvel comics, going to enclose all the bad qualities belonging to Tony Stark, amplifying his own ego of him.
Retaining the intellect of genius, strategic skills and advanced knowledge of machinery, Superior Iron Man also has the same ability to fly and the same devastating power as Iron Man when wearing his armor, despite the design of the latter being very different with a gray and blue coloring.
This figure debuts with Tom Taylor and Yildiray Cinar following the events of AXIS, which first appeared as such in November 2014 in the pages of Superior Iron Man # 1, a comic crossover between the Avengers and the X-Men. The current hypothesis is that Superior Iron Man will play a member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange 2, even though the original team was formed by that Iron Man we know.
Tom Taylor has also recently confirmed that he is not involved in the film project, but evidently the colors of the armor seen in the trailer are attributable to his original character.
Hey, Superior Iron Man is trending.
I have no inside information but when @ycinar and I created Tony’s Endo-Sym armor, it was designed to glow red/orange when he was angry. #DoctorStrange #MultiverseOfMadness pic.twitter.com/mZe7vk2tNG— Tom Taylor (@TomTaylorMade) February 14, 2022
So, if Superior Iron Man retains his antagonistic disposition in Doctor Strange 2, we may see other members of the Illuminati in a darker key, or perhaps society will be at odds with this Iron Man variant. The variant originated from a spell that traded the morality of some heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe. Superior Iron Man instead managed to protect himself from the reversal of this spell, keeping his evil personality.
In this way, a new and dark Tony Stark has managed to infiltrate society, offering every inhabitant of the Earth the Extremis virus, thus controlling a large part of the world’s population. Superior Iron Man was later defeated by Pepper Potts in Avengers #44, Vol. 5, during the events of Secret Wars. It should be noted that Reed Richards has revived the heroic version of Tony Stark and Mr. Fantastic is also expected to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Directed by the author of the first Spider-Man trilogy, Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is considered the first major Marvel show in the horror genre to boast a stellar cast consisting of Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams and Xochitl Gomez.
