In the US it is scheduled for January 28 and, fortunately, the Italian public will not have to wait long.

Who is Morbius

Morbius is a highly anticipated film by fans, not only because many are curious to see Jared Leto’s new performance but above all because the comic book character is not a simple villain but a being out of the ordinary in perennial conflict with himself. same. Before seeing the picture version, let’s go back and discover the roots of Morbius.

Morbius Was Born In 1971

Designed by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, it is commonly called Morbius – the living vampire. In October 1971 he first appeared in issue 101 of The Amazing Spider-Man. Born as a scientist, he later became the enemy of Spider-Man and Blade, who is a vampire hunter by profession. Real name is Michael Morbius. He is a brilliant scientist who has leukemia and has only a few days left to live. Aided by his friend Emil Nikos, he gets injected into his veins with the blood of a vampire bat. He then enters a machine of his own invention to complete the process, but due to a malfunction, the scientist transforms into a bloodthirsty creature.

Become a full-fledged vampire. Despite his craving for plasma, Morbius seeks another cure to escape his condition. In the comics he meets Doctor Connors – who will become the Lizard – and he collides with Spider-Man who, at the time, was intent on finding a cure for the 4 extra arms. Later, it ends up in Blade’s sights. Who, despite his humanity, considers Morbius a vampire like the others. The fight with Blade changes him in depth. He then decides to join the Sons of Midnight, a group of vampire hunters who are led by the Blade himself.

Morbius Powers and Abilities

Not being a full-fledged vampire, Morbius does not possess the powers typical of creatures of the night. However, he is endowed with remarkable abilities. He must ingest fresh blood to maintain himself, he is allergic to sunlight because it damages his photosensitive skin, but he has the power to control the elements, animals and the ability to hypnotize those who have less willpower.

Most of its victims die or are seriously injured. Although he is an anomalous vampire, if a person is bitten by Marbius, he too becomes a supernatural creature. The causes at least in the comics are not explained. It is speculated that due to the vampire DNA, present in Morbius’s body, the former scientist transfers it to his victims. A cure has never been discovered, but Peter Parker’s blood can keep his animal instincts at bay.

He First Appeared In Theaters In An Alternate Ending To Blade

The film with Jared Leto marks Morbius’ film debut but it is not his first appearance. In theaters, for example, he was seen in an alternate ending to the first Blade movie, in which the Daytime sees the vampire watching him from a distant building. That’s not all, the Blade II antagonist has many similarities to Morbius. On TV he appeared in several episodes of the animated series of Spider-Man between 1994 and 1998.
