Who is Lady Thor? Story From The Comics Of The Character Of Natalie Portman

Marvel Studios have officially released the first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, which shows not only Chris Hemsworth ‘s character, but also Natalie Portman’s Lady Thor. Here’s what the story of Mighty Thor is in the comics and how he gets the powers of the Thunder. Ever since Natalie Portman took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 holding Thor’s hammer aloft, Marvel fans have been waiting to see her return to the role of Jane Foster, but this time with the powers of Thor. With the release of the first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, a first look at her character was finally shown. But since when does Jane Foster possess Thor’s power?

The Story Of Lady Thor In The Comics

The answer is: since 2014’s Thor 1, in which a mysterious new superheroine appeared in the Marvel Universe, with Mjolnir in her hand. In this comic Jane Foster then gains the powers of the thunder god, but how does all this happen? Comic writer Jason Aaron took over the helm of Marvel Thor comics in 2012 and introduced the character of Gorr the God Butcher. This alien bent on killing every god in the universe to free mortals will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder played by Christian Bale.

Due to Gorr , Thor became unable to lift Mjolnir . Following this a new hammer holder has risen, a mysterious helmeted woman who referred to herself only as Thor. Aaron and Thor artist Russell Dauterman put a lot of effort into carrying that idea forward. “It just says ‘ Thor’ on the cover” Aaron told Comic Book Resources in 2014. “She’s basically telling you that she’s not She-Thor or Lady Thor. She is not Thorika. She is Thor. This is the new Thor”.

The identity of the non-Lady Thor was revealed just seven months after her debut. It turned out that this new Thor was Dr. Jane Foster. The woman was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Despite Thor ‘s urges, she had decided to rely on medicine rather than magical means, which often come with an unexpected cost. The doctor thus underwent a series of painful chemotherapy sessions that made her unrecognizable, without leading to any results.

Jane after these events became worthy to raise Mjolnir, and decided to fight Malekith, Dario Agger and the Absorbing Man, becoming the new Thor and not revealing his identity to anyone. However, whenever she returned from being a goddess to mortality, she transformed into the normal state of her body, erasing the progress made during her cancer treatments. Being Thor was saving the others, but it was killing her. However, she continued to do so, right up to War of the Realms.

Lady Thor in Thor Love and Thunder

We don’t know how much of all of this – Thor’s unworthiness, Jane’s cancer, Gorr ‘s massacre – will be reprized in Thor: Love and Thunder. This first trailer doesn’t reveal much, and it doesn’t even feature villain Gorr. We will only find out soon how Jane Foster will obtain Thor ‘s powers in the fourth film dedicated to the god of thunder.

The last time we saw the doctor was in Thor The Dark World, where Jane and Thor reunite and stop Malekith and the Dark Elves. Here the woman comes into contact with Aether, a fluid material endowed with enormous power, which turns out to be the Gem of Reality. In Thor Ragnarok Natalie Portman did not return to play Jane, but in Avengers Endgame we saw the doctor during journeys into the past. Here Thor and Rocket return to Asgard to retrieve the Reality Stone, stealing it from Jane’s body.

As for Thor Love And Thunder we will see Natalie Portman again, in the role of Lady Thor, or better than Thor and that’s it. From the trailer we see her wielding Mjolnir, which appears reassembled after Hela destroyed it in Ragnarok. We do not know how the doctor came into possession of her as there is no intact version of the hammer in the present. In fact, the version that Thor got by traveling back in time was brought back in his place by Captain America.
