Wednesday: Netflix Renewed the Series for A Second Season!
It took a while, but Netflix finally did what so many hoped and expected. The streaming giant renewed Wednesday, the TV series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and inspired by the characters of the Addams family, for a second season. A renewal that has never been in doubt, given that the series has been seen by more than 182 million families since its debut on November 23rd.
Wednesday First Season Records
With the first season, Wednesday managed to enter Netflix history. The series is one of the most successful series ever on the platform, ranking second in the ranking of the most popular TV products (in the English language) with 1.237 billion hours viewed in the first 28 days. It also surpassed one billion viewing hours just three weeks after debut, joining Stranger Things Season 4 and Squid Game as the third title to reach this milestone in its first 28 days, and broke the record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language TV series on Netflix – not once, but twice – when it debuted on the first place with a record 341.23 million hours viewed, and again in its second week with a staggering 411.29 million hours viewed.
To date, Wednesday has been six consecutive weeks with more than 100 million hours viewed in the most popular TV products chart (English language). On TikTok, #WednesdayAddams has amassed over 22 billion views. The soundtrack to the series reached #1 on the iTunes soundtrack chart, where it stayed in the Top 10 for three weeks. On Spotify, Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps has seen an increase in streaming of over 9500% compared to the month prior to the series release. Wednesday’s iconic dance scene went viral on social media around the world. Fan-generated content using Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga led to an over 1800% increase in streaming of the song on Spotify compared to the month prior to the series release.
Obviously, nothing is known yet about the timing of the new episodes, but something in terms of plot developments has already been anticipated by the creators Miles Millar and Al Gough: “We have a roadmap, and we would like to have paths along that map that take you in different directions. unexpected. So, we are open to everything. We want to explore friendship with Enid in every way. We don’t want to preclude anything, be misdirected by criticism from some fans or anything like that”, said Millar, responding to a possible LGBT+ twist in Wednesday’s relationship with Enid.
