Wednesday Ending Explained: Who Was the Mysterious Stalker? Who Was the Real Killer? What Happens to Tyler?

It made its debut just today on Netflix after months of high anticipation. We’re talking about the Wednesday series, the new Tim Burton series that aims to tell the story of the daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams, the gloomy little girl with black braids who is enrolled in the most famous school for outsiders in the world, the Nevermore Academy. This series focuses on the adventures of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, within this particular school of outcasts and ranges between the genres of teen drama, fantasy, and dark mystery. But how did Tim Burton’s Wednesday end? What happened in the season finale? Let’s find out together in this recap.

Wednesday: Summary Recap

After throwing piranhas in the school swimming pool after boys bullied her brother, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) was expelled from school. Morticia (Catherine Zeta Jones) and Gomez, her parents, thus decide to take her to a new academy, Nevermore Academy, which is the high school they had attended when they were young. They leave her alone, or almost. With her is a trusted member of the Addams Family, namely Mano… It is a school for special pupils. Only, outside, something is starting to kill the kids…

Among the most anticipated series of the year, Tim Burton’s Wednesday was certainly among those at the top of the list of many viewers. Wednesday’s character is iconic, indelible in the mind of anyone who has ever approached Barry Sonnenfeld’s 90s films. The strength of the character lies above all in the immediate visual recognition: Wednesday’s costumes, her hairstyle and in general her aesthetic appearance has become part of popular culture. Anyone knows, even if only by hearsay, Wednesday Addams. Anyone can tell her apart in the crowd and instantly recognize her cosplayers. It is therefore impossible that a series starring the young Addams family can go unnoticed.

Wednesday Netflix

The involvement of Tim Burton contributed to increasing expectations and anticipation towards the Netflix show. The much-loved director of Edward Scissorhands, 1989’s Batman and The Chocolate Factory hadn’t sat behind the camera for a long time. The recent failures received with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Dumbo did not help the new phase of Burton’s career, so much so that since 2019 he has no longer taken part in a film project. Some consider him an outdated and inadequate director for current times and for those who continue to love him precisely because of his peculiar vision, perhaps the character of Wednesday Addams is the right one to relaunch Tim. I am sure that fans of the director will be the first to watch the Netflix series but with them also many young viewers who have never yet approached Burton’s films and will instead be able to do so once Wednesday’s viewing is over, provided that the show attracts success in their eyes.

Wednesday Ending Explained: Who Was the Mysterious Stalker? Who Was the Real Killer?

First Tyler is identified as the hyde, the monster that killed six people during the series and it is Wednesday who discovers it in a vision while she is kissing him. Thus, the girl catches him to make him confess. Although her schoolmates accompanied her to help her, after seeing how she tortured her boyfriend without scruples on Wednesday, they backed away from her. On Wednesday, once discovered by the police, she is expelled from school for assault, kidnapping and torture. Wednesday at this point she finds herself alone without even the support of Xavier who defines her as a “harmful” person and capable of ruining everything she touches. On Wednesday she starts packing to abandon Nevermore forever. The girl, however, manages to figure out who is responsible for everything.

It deals with, unexpectedly, Professor Marilyn who, once framed, kills Principal Weems until she captures Wednesday to use her as a key, through her blood, to resurrect one of her descendants to destroy the school and everyone inside it. As soon as he comes back to life, the man stabs Wednesday who, however, through her amulet, is brought back to life by her ancestor Goody. In the final fight between Wednesday and the monster resurrected by Marilyn, the daughter of Morticia and Guzman has the upper hand by defeating him thanks to the help of Bianca who stabs him in the back.

Professor Marylin, at this point, tries to kill Wednesday with a pistol but is attacked by a flock of bees provoked by Eugene who has come to help Wednesday. The series ends with Wednesday writing the final word to his novel. In the last scene, we see Wednesday receiving threatening messages from a mysterious stalker on her cell phone given to her by Xavier and we also see that Tyler is not dead but was captured by someone unidentified. We are certain that the story of Wednesday Addams did not end here.

Wednesday Arrives at Nunca Mais

Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) don’t know what else to do with Wednesday. After releasing a shoal of piranhas to protect herself from her brothers, Wednesday ends her parents’ patience once and for all. Her indiscipline made her go through eight schools over five years and her last chance would be at Escola Nunca Mais. It was precisely at this boarding school that Gomez and Morticia met. Wednesday will hate the place and will do her best to try to escape. Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), her roommate, will try to mediate a good relationship between Wednesday and the managers of the place, but without success.

In Nunca Mais, Wednesday will live with the pariahs, a race of humans endowed with supernatural abilities who need to learn how to replace themselves in the world. Wednesday has the power of clairvoyance, inherited from her mother. In the first days of boarding school, Wednesday is pursued by Rowan (Calum Ross), a boy with telekinesis. The boy almost kills her, who is saved by a monstrous and mysterious creature. Wednesday is intrigued by the situation and decides to find out more about the creature. She is certain that he is one of the Never Again inmates, but this still requires further investigation.

Everything is Changing

As Wednesday blends in with the environment, new links and new friendships are created. She becomes friends with Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White) and Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan). The problem is that they are mortal enemies, and this rivalry is bound to escalate, as their approach is full of ulterior motives with the Addams Family heiress. Wednesday ignores the love triangle, but at the same time, she cannot hide that she feels something more for Tyler. Romances aside, she teams up with her friends and Mãozinha, an illustrious member of the Addams Family who stayed with Wednesday at Escola Nunca Mais, to unravel the case of the creature.

Revealing View

When returning efforts to unravel the case, Wednesday has a revealing vision. She discovers that Goody Addams, a relative of Wednesday on her father’s side, had a bitter dispute with Joseph Crackstone (William Houston), the founder of the city where they are at the moment, Jericho.

And worst of all, in the vision, Crackstone is shown killing outcasts in Jericho, who are burned alive. Among the victims is Goody, who is saved and returns to take revenge. Then, Wednesday receives a visit from Fester ( Fred Armisen ), her devilish uncle and full of controversies. Would it be the return for a new cycle of revenge?

Uncle Fester Will Be Very Helpful

Wednesday decides to enlist her uncle’s support and shows a sketch of the creature she is looking for. Fester recognizes him at the same time: it is Hyde, a monster treated as a legend in Scottish literature from 1886. In search of answers, Wednesday locates a diary that was used by Nathaniel Faulkner, the founder of Escola Nunca Mais. The diary has cataloged all the ex-members of Nunca Mais and, among them, Hyde. Wednesday also learns more details about Hyde’s characteristics and discovers that, while he is an artist and kind, he has a macabre side. Theoretically, Hyde was asleep. However, some particular situations may have been responsible for awakening him, either through trauma or someone who would be invoking him through hypnosis.

A Big Turnaround

Wednesday will begin to suspect that Xavier is responsible for waking up Hyde since he made the creature’s sketches with great precision. Also, Dr. Valerie Kinbott (Riki Lindhome) becomes a possibility, but she is killed by Hyde and suspicion turns to Xavier only. He will vehemently deny the accusation and, by accident, Wednesday discovers that Hyde is Tyler. He inherited his mother’s monstrous side. Also, it is discovered that the one summoning Hyde is Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), who has infiltrated Nevermore School under an assumed name.  Marilyn is Laurel Gates, a descendant of Joseph Crackstone.

The Outcome

After the hidden war is exposed, an old case of attempted mass murder at Nunca Mais, orchestrated by Laurel‘s brother, comes to light, which happened at the time when Gomez and Morticia were studying there. He couldn’t kill everyone, and after the situation was resolved, it was thought that everything was fine. After all, in everyone’s minds, Laurel was dead. But, she was waiting for the right moment to come out of anonymity. Laurel takes Wednesday‘s blood and summons Crackstone, who resurrects and heads towards Nevermore. But, Goody Addams also resurrects and appears in time to make Wednesday save everyone from the school.

He gives Wednesday a very specific direction: stab Crackstone’s heart. When he shows up, Crackstone and Laurel fight against Wednesday and his friends. Enid plucks up the courage, transforms into a werewolf, and manages to attack Tyler. Crackstone is attacked by Wednesday and Bianca, a friend who appears with mermaid power. But Laurel pulls a gun on Wednesday. Before shooting, Eugene Otinger (Moosa Mostafa) summons a swarm of bees and prevents it from taking the life of the youngest of the Addams family.

Finally, Tyler is found dying in the woods by his father, Sheriff Donovan Galpin (Jamie McShane). Wednesday and Xavier agree. To seal the new times, Xavier presents her with a cell phone. When unlocking it, Wednesday realizes that there is a saved number. Then, a message is received from an unknown contact with photos of her with Tyler and Xavier, leaving a mystery in the air. Wednesday realizes that she has a spy chasing her and, due to the context, there is a question mark to be unraveled in the next season.

The Identity of Wednesday’s Monster and Killer?

As anticipated at the end of the penultimate episode, after giving his first kiss, Wednesday discovers that Tyler is the fearsome Hyde, the monster he’s been hunting since the beginning of the season. Upset, the girl runs away and informs her friends at Nevermore of what happened, convincing them to set a trap for the human boy, to be able to make him confess or transform. The ambush, however, did not have the effect. Tyler seems genuinely unaware of her powers and Wednesday, willing to resort to violence to get him to confess, scares the other students. Enid and the others immediately go to inform the school principal Larissa Weems, played by Gwendoline Christie, who immediately alerts the sheriff and Tyler’s father.

The policeman arrives just in time to stop Wednesday, determined to hurt the boy to extort the truth from him. Shortly afterwards, at the police station, Tyler reveals the macabre truth to Wednesday: he knows he is the monster Hyde and is aware that he has inherited this power from his mother. Psychologist Valerie Kinbott, who Wednesday believed to be the real instigator of the murders before dying had revealed this disconcerting truth to the boy. The father, Sheriff Galpin, was aware of his wife’s powers, but always refused to believe that his son also inherited them.

Faced with yet another intemperance, Principal Weems expels Wednesday and harshly reprimands her for her behavior. The girl asks to be able to come and say hello to her friend Eugene, who is still hospitalized. He will be the one to reveal the crucial detail about her: a pair of red boots that she saw in passing the night he was attacked by the monster. The only one to wear them at the institute is Professor Marilyn Thornhill, played by Christina Ricci, who in the past was her turn on Wednesday. To find out more about it you can read the in-depth study of the characters of the Addams family.

It was the botany teacher and the only “normal” teacher at Nevermore Academy to imprint Tyler, unleashing the power of Hyde thanks to a chemical extract derived from the plants he loves and grows. The motive lies in the true identity of the woman: it is Laura, the last descendant of Joseph Crackstone, founder of the town and ruthless hunter of outcasts!

Wednesday’s Final Showdown

Wednesday and the principal manage to make Laura confess, setting a trap for her. The woman however kills Larissa and takes Wednesday hostage, taking her to the crypt of her ancestor. She needs the blood of Addams to free him from the curse in which Wednesday’s ancestor and progenitor of the family imprisoned him. Crackstone is freed and stabs Wednesday, who finds himself on the verge of death. However, the spirit of her ancestor saves her and explains how to beat her ancient rival: by piercing her dark heart with her blade. After a grueling fight, Wednesday manages to stop Crackstone. Tyler is also captured.

The death of the principal causes Nevermore to end the school year early. On Wednesday she says goodbye to Enid and all of his friends. Xavier forgives her for the accusations she made earlier and gives her a smartphone, obviously black. In the final scene of the first season, Wednesday receives some photos taken without her knowledge on the phone and a death threat. The girl wonders who is really behind the attack on Nevermore Academy. Meanwhile, Tyler transforms into Hyde and manages to escape from the police van that was transporting him to prison.
