Mostly though, Hrithik’s Vedha is a feral, fierce beast going bonkers with the idea of settling scores and cutting loose. His item-esque song and dance turn in Alcoholia makes unhinged look like an art form. A screenplay and superstar in perfect tandem, it doesn’t get better than this. Pushkar-Gayathri’s entertaining remake is in complete possession of its two sides of the same coin tussle but smartly leaves the onus of figuring out the outcome of its final catch-22 on the audience. Once again, Betaal has our back.

VIKRAM VEDHA rests on the strong shoulders of Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan. Hrithik Roshan gets into the skin of the character and delivers one of his most accomplished performances. He carries the swag and the attitude with utmost ease and takes the film to another level. It’s also amazing how one can’t compare his work with that of Vijay Sethupathi in the original film. He portrays the character rather differently, and fans of the original will have no reason to complain. Saif Ali Khan, too, puts his best foot forward. He also has his share of massy dialogues and sequences and his strong persona works perfectly for the character. What’s also praiseworthy is that at not a single juncture are the two actors trying to dominate each other. They are simply going with the character and the result is magical. Radhika Apte has a supporting part but delivers a fabulous performance. Sharib Hashmi (Babloo), as expected, gives a memorable performance. Rohit Saraf has a late entry but leaves a mark. Yogita Bihani’s performance is sincere. Ishan Tripathi (young Shatak) and Drashti Bhanushali (young Chanda) also do well. Satyadeep Mishra is dependable. Manuj Sharma (Deepak; the newbie in Vikram’s team) is fine. Govind Pandey, Amarjeet Singh and others are decent.

Vikram Vedha is a stylised, blown-up, and somewhat sanitised remake of a cult classic. It needs to be all those things given its size and scale, and the star power it carries. The remake is choppy with some bits left out from the original, which may have made the film better. But the makers decided to opt for style over substance in some parts. The good thing is that it is not choppy enough to be noticeable or at least, annoying. Vikram Vedha works as both a thriller and a masala action flick. It is enjoyable and even manages a few whistles and claps in a packed hall. It will get you your money’s worth, even if that worth is not ₹75 anymore.

With two major Bollywood stars powering the film, the actors in the supporting roles suffer just a touch. Be that as it may, Radhika Apte, stepping into Shraddha Srinath’s shoes as Vikram’s lawyer-wife, Satyadeep Mishra playing Vikram’s police academy mate SSP Abbas Ali (replacing the Tamil film’s Simon), and Sharib Hashmi in the role of Vedha’s foe-turned-friend-turned-foe Babloo add their mite to the film. Post a comment The characters played by Rohit Saraf and Yogita Bihani – Vedha’s younger brother and the girl in his life – somehow do not seem to make the impact that Kathir and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar did in the same roles in the 2017 movie. But these are but small blips in a power-packed, compelling action thriller that knows exactly what it is getting at and achieves its ends with aplomb.

Apart from naming the Hindi version’s lead character Vedha Betal to rub in our faces the fact that Vikram Vedha draws inspiration from Vikram-Betaal lore, there are a couple of other nips and tucks that are mystifying. The background score during fights in the original was throbbing and addictive. In the Hindi remake, it is still pulsating but raised to a shrieking level. During a heated argument that Vikram has with Priya early in their relationship, she roughs him up in the Hindi version. Priya (Shraddha Srinath) in the Tamil film gesticulated furiously but did not touch Vikram. Later in the Hindi film, Vedha’s brother Shatak (Rohit Saraf) gets violent with his girlfriend (Yogita Bihani). It turns out that he was faking it for a fun reason, but what was the purpose, especially considering that Pulli in Tamil did not pretend assault his lover in that scene?

Engaging. Engrossing. Entertaining… Smartly-written, brilliantly executed… VV has it all: style, substance, suspense STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Take a bow, PushkarGayatri… The simple plot is garnished with unpredictable twists, also the confrontations are superb… Would like to make a special mention of the electrifying background score and raw and sharp action sequences of VikramVedha

How much you enjoy Vikram Vedha starring Hrithik Roshan & Saif Ali Khan is directly dependent on how much you have already enjoyed Vikram Vedha. If lIke me you are lover of 2017 Tamil version of Vikram Vedha than the hindi version becomes a largely labourious retread but if you are a Vikram Vedha Virgin you will enjoy the puzzle like plot. The Trouble is that original that they wrote was so good that there is no room for improvement so the hindi version is mostly scene to scene replica. I returned from theater a little exhausted and hoping Pushkar and Gayatri soon return to being original.

I hope this collaboration of North and South is not just a flash in the pan, because if there’s anything that can save Bollywood right now, it is this confluence of talents streaming in from across the Vindhyas. Pushkar-Gayatri are passionate story-tellers who clearly love what they do: can’t wait for their next.

Although a great film experience, Vikram Vedha has its share of flaws. The film felt imbalanced when divided into two halves. Despite its flaws, Vikram Vedha is a massy film that serves as a fun single-screen theatre experience. I’d suggest caving into Pushkar and Gayathri’s make-believe world and joining Vikram and Vedha’s cat and mouse chase.

To sum up, Pushkar-Gayathri, the writer-directors of the film, have pretty much stuck to the blue-print they created for the original, including the way they weave in the elements of folklore in it. It’s a plus that they haven’t changed the roadmap too much. But they’ve also not tried revisiting the elements that they had at hand to make the redux better than the original. And yet, this one’s worth a ride to the big screen.

Vikram Vedha is no ordinary cop-goon chase film. There are multiple layers and peripheral characters that contribute a lot to making the film a terrific watch. Vikram Vedha is unapologetically massy. It’s also a lot of fun, and with two rock-solid performers like Hrithik and Saif, the film hits the bull’s eye with ease.

It brings back the lost ‘heroism’ in Bollywood! Not only because it brings 2 great actors together but also how they’re shown together to make you feel like Bollywood has gone nowhere & you just were diverted by some keyboard warriors.Pushkar & Gayathri step up with the Hindi version retaining all the mass masala and adding multiple layers of technical bravura over it.

There is sophistication in the manner the directors unfurl their story, making it a film for a cross section of audiences, the multiplex and the single screen, the young and their families, as there’s neither crudity in the dialogues nor voyeurism in the visuals. But it is not a perfect film. And lastly, it is so word-heavy in places that you don’t grasp all of it. Perhaps a repeat audience might just go back to see what it didn’t get the first time around.
