Video Games That Will Have a TV Series Here Is a Complete List
The history of video games adaptations to the big or small screen is not very favorable. Just look at Super Mario Bros. Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat from the 90s: critically savaged productions that are now viewed with shame. Even Resident Evil, despite being successful as a franchise, was never well received by critics and game lovers didn’t appreciate the story as much as the games. However, with The Last of Us, a curse has been broken.
Video Games That Will Have a TV Series Here Is a Complete List
The HBO adaptation has been acclaimed by critics and fans for staying true to the original work while making small changes for a better narrative. This could be the beginning of a new era with better proposals. Here we leave you some that we will see in the future and that promise a lot.
Disco Elysium
Rumors have recently surfaced that the popular RPG Disco Elysium will be adapted into a TV series, with the involvement of ZA/UM, the developers of the game released as a PC exclusive in October 2019. The game is set in the universe set in Robert Kurvitz ‘s novel Sacred and Terrible Air, which was acclaimed for its narrative depth and the watercolor style it maintains throughout the game. As a winner of several games of the year awards, it promises a lot (although fans are demanding a sequel too).
ZA/UM is reportedly working with dj2 Entertainment, the company that made the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movie, to produce a TV series. Dj2 has the rights to the games Life is Strange, Little Nightmares, Sleeping Dogs and Vampyr, but no series have been produced. In 2018 it was announced that there would be a Vampyr show, but he was never heard from again.
God Of War
After a God of War film, one of the most successful video game franchises, failed to produce, a television series began to be developed. In late 2022 it was confirmed that an adaptation was being produced by Sony Pictures and Amazon Studios partnering with PlayStation Productions, showing that Sony is willing to make more content outside of its franchise consoles. For now, the cast has not been confirmed, nor has a release date. It has only been mentioned that the series would adapt to the Nordic era beginning with the events seen in the 2018 game.
Alan Wake
Alan Wake, one of the most important cult games in history, which this year will launch its long-awaited second part, will also arrive soon on television. Since 2018 Remedy Entertainment and Contradiction Films sought to make an Alan Wake series, however, the project was on hiatus for a while until it was announced in 2022 that AMC (the television company in charge of Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead) would take over producing it. No more has been mentioned about it but it is expected to be in development.
A Plague Tale
A Plague Tale was a hit of 2019, receiving critical acclaim, primarily for its story, which is set in 14th-century France during the Hundred Years War. A young woman and her brother seek to escape from the Inquisition and hordes of rats that bring with them the black plague. In March 2022 it was announced that it would be adapted into a television series produced by Mediawan in partnership with Asobo and Focus Home. However, no further news has emerged.
Fallout
Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, who developed the critically acclaimed Westworld series, are working on an adaptation of the hit Fallout franchise. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (who wrote Captain Marvel) will be attached to write the series along with Graham Wagner. Waltor Goggins and Ella Purnell were selected as the protagonists of a story that will show the world after a nuclear war in a retro-futuristic world of the 50s.
