Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Critics Review: By Taran Adarsh, Komal Nahta, Anupama Chopra, Rajiv Masand
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia, Boney Kapoor
Director: Luv Ranjan
Where to Watch: In Theaters
Overall Critics Ratings: 3.5/5 (four stars)
Here we are going to tell you what critics said about Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Director Luv Ranjan is a filmmaker making cinema of New Millennials. His report card has also been excellent so far. He understands the corporate world closely. The sanskaras of Ghaziabad still remain in them. His cinema does not run on a straight flat surface. He takes off from a beautiful runway. Passes through bad weather before reaching altitude. The viewer is nervous like a traveler. But, before reaching the destination, Luv becomes a reliable pilot and brings the story back on the runway, where the audience happily joins them thinking that all is well that ends well. He writes funny post-credit scenes. The film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar looks like a romantic fun film from above, but it is such a river of love in which one has to go by drowning, as well as the source of the springs from which water has come in it. Karthik Aryan is also there and Nusrat Bharucha is also there.

Amandeep NarangThe catharsis in this three act film is well-worth a watch and for that reason ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’ can be seen as a family entertainer despite its many problems and pseudo-feminism. There is an end-credits sequence where for some 4 minutes, even as critics you’re hooked to what’s happening on screen- an ideal life story plays out- an in-laws family and the most loving partner in the world doing everything to make their daughter-in-law feel at home and everyone is supremely happy. For what it’s worth, Luv Ranjan still can make an entertaining watch which might bring audiences to theatres post-pandemic when entertainment-consumption patterns have changed completely.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is your age-old love story packaged in a modern day setup. It’s weird and problematic but rendered in a funny manner, which might hook you in. You may struggle to sit through the pre-interval but things settle a bit after that. Definitely a one-time watch for some entertaining performances and monologues, if you love them as much as Kartik Aaryan does because it definitely helped him click with the masses.

I suppose if TJMM was silly and fun, it would still have been fine. I’m always in the market for silly. But this kind of movie has no business being so boring, and that’s its biggest sin. I love you, says the teary-eyed guy to the teary-eyed gal, but I love my family more, and you come after Dadiji, Mummyji, Daddyji, Sisterji, Nieceji. If there was a family pet, I guess the latter would have been on that list too.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a film which leaves you with a smile as you exit the theatres. It is highly relatable despite its flaws. Luv Ranjan has made an entertainer that is suited for the youth and families in the same breath. 3.5 stars for Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar.

Ranbir Kapoor is most beautiful when he essays broken characters. His silence speaks volumes. He enters a new territory here, the one Kartik Aaryan has mastered over the years. He adapts well to frothy romance, excessive talking and constant monologues. This is perhaps the most he has spoken in a film till date and the way it alters his personality is interesting to watch. He looks great with Shraddha, but the chemistry needs work. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar has its humour and heart in place. Character building misses the mark, given the duration.

Go give this film a shot in the theatres because you will have ample of laughs, moments that make you emotional and of course, the movie does have everything that a mass entertainer must have. We say, more reasons to watch it than to not!

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is Luv Ranjan trying to make a perfect movie for his audience but add too much of everything. It could be appropriate for many and even problematic for some and neither are wrong. Chose your poison wisely.
