True Detective: Season 4 Has Been Officially Confirmed By HBO! With A New Name
True Detective is one of the most popular anthology series ever. The first season starring the extraordinary Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey – has become a real cult. After a fluctuating second season and a third capable of raising the quality of the project, HBO has officially ordered the construction of a fourth season. Executive producer on the project – according to a report released by Variety – would be Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk). Jenkins has previously teamed up with one of the protagonists of True Detective, the Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, but being an anthological product, it is difficult for the actors to be involved again in the project.
True Detective: Season 4
No cast or plot details have been revealed at the moment, but the series is expected to be set in the Arctic, where darkness can last for twenty-four hours. It is no coincidence that the project is currently titled True Detective: Night Country. Also according to the Variety report, the fourth season will not see the involvement of Nic Pizzolatto, creator of the series and screenwriter of most of the episodes. The showrunner would have in fact severed relations with HBO in early 2020. The two historical protagonists – Harrelson and McConaughey – are expected to return as executive producers, roles they have held for all seasons of the show.
In place of Pizzolatto HBO would have called Issa Lopez, director and screenwriter famous for the films Tigers Are Not Afraid and Side Effects . At the moment Lopez is in charge of writing a story for the new season, of which she will become showrunner and of which she will direct the first episode if the project continues. It is not clear at the moment if Barry Jenkins will direct any episodes. Jenkins recently won at DGA 2022 for directing the miniseries The Underground Railway and his next work will be a prequel to The Lion King for Disney.
