Treason Ending Explained: Is Adam Innocent or a Traitor? Who Is Dorian? What Happens to Adam?
Not sure how to spend the afternoon of December 26th? No problem because the new Charlie Cox series, Treason, will debut on Netflix on Boxing Day. Maybe you haven’t heard of it yet or you haven’t come across the various trailers but believe me after reading even the incipit of this review, if you love the genre, you will need to give it an opportunity. Treason is the new James Bond-style action show, but this time signed by Netflix. The protagonist is played by the beloved Daredevil, Charlie Cox wearing the new MI6 agent clothes to perfection. If James Bond is the hero without blemish, Adam Lawrence is not as clear and transparent as it seems, indeed his rising career has been facilitated more than once. However, he’s not the only one hiding a dark secret among the top management of the UK’s most famous detective agency. Action, family, and a sense of duty are the cornerstones of Treason, a show that captures the viewer’s attention from the very first minutes.
Netflix is completely dedicated to filling its catalog with great news. Proof of this is what has happened with the most recent releases, with flashy titles and great appeal. One of the novelties that have just arrived on the platform is Treason, an espionage series starring famous faces. The production features actors Olga Kurylenko, Oona Chaplin and Charlie Cox in the main cast. We follow the story of Adam Lawrence, a spy who is excellent at what he does. However, his life is shattered by Kara and Maddy. They will bring to light a traumatic past for Adam, which he wants to completely forget ever existed. Treason: Plot Summary
Trained and groomed by MI6, Adam Lawrence’s career seems like a fairy tale. But someone from his past will come back to haunt him. Kara (played by Olga Kurylenko) is a Russian spy with whom he shares a turbulent past. Charlie Cox’s character is then forced to question everything and everyone in his life. In particular, her relationship with his wife Maddy (played by Oona Chaplin) creates a kind of love triangle between Adam, Maddy and Kara. The cumbersome presence of the Russian spy makes itself felt and makes Maddy question her husband’s fidelity. Kara’s arrival in their life, however, is premeditated. We find out that she was the one who engineered the assassination attempt on MI6 head Martin Angelis (played by Ciarán Hinds) just to get at Adam.
The two are former lovers and accomplices, they have already known each other since the days of Baku, a mission that will return during the course of the series because that is where the turning point of the entire plot is accessed. We will find out that Kara has come to collect all the favors – unsolicited – done to her partner. At the same time, however, the couple has a much more serious matter to solve. Their eldest daughter, Ella (played by Beau Gadsdon) has been kidnapped and only Kara knows the way to find her. Thus began the strategy made of espionage and counterespionage where Maddy herself now no longer trusts her husband. Now aware of confidential information about Adam’s past, the character played by Oona Chaplin begins to play a double game. The story has just begun, and it doesn’t promise to be that simple.
The skein to unravel is so tangled that it is difficult to understand the beginning and the end. We don’t have the complete picture of the situation and just like the characters in the series, we can’t trust anyone. If we are initially tempted to see Kara as a threat, we gradually get to know the reasons for her choices. The young woman who spies that she previously held the reins of this threat is now threatened in turn. At the center of it all is Adam who tries in every way to juggle family evenings and his ex while MI6 begins to have doubts about his loyalty to intelligence.
Treason Ending Explained: The Beginning Of Everything
We start by seeing Adam Lawrence and the number of commitments in his hectic schedule due to the important position he holds in MI6, an important spy squad. His life seems perfect, and he is the father of a couple of children: Ella and Callum. He is married to Maddy, a former army officer who was active in military rescue operations. One day, Callum calls his father to lecture about the work routine at MI6. During the speech, he receives urgent information that his superior, Sir Martin Angelis, is on the brink of death. With that, Adam takes over the role of Sir Martin and becomes the anchor of investigations into what happened to the main head of MI6.
He learns that ex-lover Kara was responsible for poisoning Sir Martin. Adam is stunned by the information and their discoveries end up making the situation even worse. Kara purposely did this poisoning so that Adam would take over MI6’s top job and help her with an investigation. Adam doesn’t like Kara’s proposal, but he will have to deal with the consequences of her decision.
Adam Will Be Forced
After saying “no” to Kara, Ella, Adam’s daughter is kidnapped. Soon, he understands what this is about and sees that he will indeed be forced to accept Kara’s mission. The information Adam must give includes secret documents about Minister Audrey Gratz. With the family’s life at risk, Adam sees no other way but to help Kara. Amid investigations, Adam discovers that Sir Martin Angelis was orchestrating an operation to arrest him for treason against his nation. Sir Martin recovers, while Adam contemplates stepping down before the scandal comes to light.
Danger In Sight
Adam’s wife, Maddy, is on the lookout for her husband and hires Dee, a CIA agent, to spy on him. At the same time, Adam comes to know the whole truth about Kara and her involvement with a Russian clan anchored by businessman Anton Melnikov. Adam meets with Melnikov to learn more about Kara but ends up falling into a real trap. The meeting is photographed and the records arrive in the hands of Sir Martin, who uses this as proof that Adam is a traitor. In danger, Adam and his family flee. Sir Martin and Dee join forces to make arrangements for Adam. Adam takes the opportunity to look for ways to exonerate himself, as his situation is very delicate, and he could face life imprisonment.
Final Moments
In the final scenes, Adam is the full focus of whatever is going on. Either he finds a way out, or he goes off the deep end. The way found by Adam is to find the man who killed Kara’s team, as he is the only one who can explain that Adam has no involvement with the Russians or any conspiracy. To shield himself, Adam looks for minister Audrey Gratz and uses Maddy to intermediate a negotiation. Meanwhile, Adam is at Kara’s side, looking for secret files that might help to exonerate him. Everyone gathers and Dee sets up an ambush to catch the three.
But a twist happens in Adam’s favor: Kara finds a document that implies that Adam was the agent responsible for killing her team. When thinking about it, Kara remembered when she was Adam’s lover and realized that the dates on the documents were from days when the officer was with her, which proves that he is innocent. Kara is about to flee, but Dee surrenders Adam and can kill him if he doesn’t hand over these documents. Adam tries to run away when he sees an opening, but Dee shoots him. Adam dies with his dirty name, but he is certain that he died with the truth and being on the right side.
Dee doesn’t get the files and Adam’s family is safe. Maddy is committed to restoring Adam’s credibility, tarnished by the trick created against him. Sir Martin concocts that Kara was responsible for executing Adam, protecting Dee, and causing her to become MI6’s new target. Kara and Maddy, Adam’s ex-lover and widow, team up to reverse the situation. Before they can take action, Sir Martin Angelis’s clan invents that Kara is planning to flee the country with files that put national security at risk.
The Dark Past of Adam Lawrence
To unravel the skein of Treason’s gripping plot, we must necessarily take a few steps back and pick up the threads of the narrative from the beginning. Adam Lawrence (Charlie Cox) is the young and enterprising deputy head of British MI6, Britain’s most important and influential secret agency. His life with his wife Maddy (Oona Chaplin) and daughter Ella (Beau Gadson) seems perfect, until his superior, the head of the agency Sir Martin Angelis (Ciaran Hinds) is not poisoned, suddenly turns upside down the structure and the internal hierarchies of MI6. It turns out that it was Kara (Olga Kurylenko), a Russian spy who not only shares a sentimental past with Adam but also makes an attempt on the life of the powerful English citizen, which now threatens the stability of the former’s career within the agency and the life of his family. A life, public and private, which for Adam Lawrence will gradually shatter.
Yes, because when Adam meets Kara in a safe place, he learns that it was the Russian woman who poisoned his boss, for a very specific reason: it would have been convenient for Kara to see MI6 take the top seat. his ex-flame because in possession of sensitive information on an old case dating back to the time when the Russian spy was still working for them before being expelled. Kara wanted to know the name of the CIA agent who had killed her men years ago in Baku, a piece of information only Adam could provide. However, things don’t go well for both of them.
Who is Cheating on Whom?
Coinciding with Adam and Kara’s secret meeting, Maddy is visited by Dede Alexander (Tracy Ifeachor), an old colleague stationed in Afghanistan who urges her to dig into her partner’s past to find out what’s cooking between him and Kara. Kara. But what Maddy doesn’t know is that Dede is an agent sent by the CIA to target Adam Lawrence and that she is using Maddy’s doubts and weaknesses to get close to him and frame him. Meanwhile, Adam and Maddy’s daughter is kidnapped, and the man’s suspicions fall on Kara who however dissociates herself from any accusation; she the latter, confronted by Adam, manages to escape in the scuffle with the man. The Russian woman asks for help from Anton Meliknov (Danila Kozlovskiy), a man no longer liked by the country who is trying to get Robert Kirby elected as Prime Minister, a direct opponent of Audrey Gratz (Alex Kingston), Foreign Minister and candidate for the same political office. By backing Kirby in the shadows, Meliknov thus wants to establish a puppet of the Kremlin at 10 Downing Street, facilitating the process of reintegration into the mother country.
Anton decides to help Kara in exchange for compromising information about Gratz, which she demands from Adam when he finds Ella and uses her as a bargaining chip with his ex-partner. To save his daughter, Adam gets hold of incriminating information on the Foreign Secretary at the home of Sir Martin Angelis and discovers that his ex-boss was hiding a file with incriminating information on all his colleagues at MI6, including Adam. When the latter decides to resign for having violated the rules of the agency and having committed treason to have his daughter back in his arms, a whirlwind spiral of events begins that will lead to the grand finale of the miniseries.
Beyond Appearances
Meanwhile, Maddy has confirmation from Dede that not only was the latter a CIA agent sent to spy on and compromise Adam’s position but that it was the CIA itself that kidnapped her daughter Ella. A shocking discovery that convinces the young MI6 chief even more to recover the information regarding the Baku case that Kara needed. But when Martin Angelis is discharged from the hospital, he makes a revelation to Adam Lawrence: he had moved some compromising files because he was convinced that his young deputy was working undercover as an agent of the Russian SVR. This was because, according to the character played by Ciaran Hinds, the SVR had used an MI6 agent, codenamed Dorian, in Baku to kill Kara’s men, which had caused a riot. On that occasion, the Russians took control of the city and Adam saved the embassy from riots and became a hero within the British agency; the thing though is that Martin strongly believed that Adam was codenamed, Dorian.
Adam, enraged with his ex-boss, decides to secure his family from the danger posed by Martin, who therefore wanted both Adam and Kara dead; the latter learns that in Angelis’ sights there are not only them but also Anton Meliknov. The Russian man behind Kirby is killed, but when the agent in charge of taking out Adam as well is knocked out by Kara with Maddy’s help, he makes all three fugitives. Martin Angelis, willing to do anything to silence Adam believing him to be the coded agent Dorian, makes a deal with Dede: if she killed Lawrence, he would later guarantee her top honors at the CIA. Dede accepts the mission while compromising information about Gratz that Kara had given Meliknov with Adam’s help is leaked to the press.
Who is the Real Traitor?
The Foreign Minister, now certain that she cannot win the general elections in the UK but ready to overthrow Martin Angelis, makes a pact with Maddy: the woman reveals to her that Angelis would have waited for the inevitable election of Kirby as Prime Minister to then be able to unmask him, expose his connections to the Kremlin and thus strengthen his position within MI6. Audrey accepts Adam’s fair exchange: he would have obtained the missing files with the help of his colleague Malik, and he would have delivered them to Gratz so that the Minister could have unmasked Angelis’ true intentions before the official elections, in exchange for the immunity from all charges for the protagonist. With Malik’s help, Kara and Adam can locate the location of Martin’s scanned files. but the CIA headed by agent Dede Alexander is hot on their heels; when Adam tries to convince her that he is not the codename Dorian Angelis is obsessed with, Dede doesn’t believe him, and shoots and kills him.
Maddy, in possession of the digitized files, contacts Audrey Gratz to deliver them to her but this is exactly where Patrick Hamilton, Adam’s longtime friend and head of the Russian department of MI6, comes into play; he is the undercover agent codenamed Dorian, who is truly responsible in the shadows of the ranks of history. In the final episode, the man attempts to seize Angelis’ top-secret files from Maddy, which the Russian authorities allegedly use to influence Britain’s politics; luckily Maddy manages to successfully transmit the information to Audrey Gratz; later, Robert is poisoned by Kara, who sought revenge for what happened in Baku.
The miniseries closes with the hearing of the commission set up by MI6 which clears the name of Adam Lawrence and discredits that of Martin Angelis thanks to the top secret information in the hands of Audrey Gratz and Maddy and Kara who embrace each other before saying goodbye (perhaps) definitively and taking different paths: the first swears revenge against Dede, the real person responsible for the kidnapping of daughter Ella, while Kara decides to finally return home to Russia. Will there be a second season of Treason despite the disappearance of the character played by Charlie Cox? We look forward to Netflix confirming whether the project to put in the pipeline a second chapter of the show created by Matt Charman. while Kara decides to finally return home to Russia.
