Toy Story 5: Disney Announces the New Sequel to The Franchise
Toy Story 5 has just been announced by Disney which, thus, is preparing to further swell the famous Pixar franchise. The sequel could, therefore, bring some of animated cinema’s all-time most beloved characters to the big screen again. At the moment the release date of the film is still unknown and, at the same time, the details relating to the plot of the project are unknown.
As reported by Variety, Bob Iger has announced the making of Toy Story 5. The franchise consists of 4 regular episodes and a spinoff – Lightyear – spread between 1995 and 2022. Recently, Lightyear has performed below expectations at the box office. A few years earlier, however, Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 had been able to obtain stratospheric receipts and reach one billion dollars. In Toy Story 4, the famous characters of Woody and Buzz Lightyear are voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, who returned to the cinema for the fourth time in the role of the cowboy and astronaut most loved by children and adults.
Despite the end of the fourth installment, Toy Story will have a fifth film that will return us to the toy world of Pixar. In 2019, Toy Story 4 established what was, in principle, the “perfect ending” for Pixar Animation’s animated toys. Woody and Bo left to live their lives with the lost toys, ending the sheriff’s adventures with Buzz since 1995. Of course, that was also said of Toy Story 3, which also had a heartwarming ending, with Andy ready to head off to college, handing over his beloved toys to little Bonnie.
However, it seems that the most beloved toys on the big screen have rope for a new adventure. Toy Story 5 has been confirmed and is in development by Disney. It has been the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, who announced the development of a new installment of the Pixar franchise during the company’s quarterly shareholders meeting.
Will Woody Return in Toy Story 5?
Iger has only announced the development of the film, without going into details about what we can expect from this fifth installment. However, a tweet from Tim Allen – who voices Buzz Lightyear in the original version – opens the door to a possible return of Woody in the Pixar movie. After the announcement was made, Allen made a post—pretending to be Buzz —in which he recreated one of the dialogues with Woody in the first Toy Story movie.
It may be a coincidence, or Tim Allen may already know if he is going to meet again with what was Andy’s other favorite toy. Toy Story 4 managed to amass over $1 billion at the box office, making it an interesting draw to bring back to theaters. Its “spin-off”, Lightyear, however, had more problems last year. Be that as it may, we will be attentive to the development of this new Toy Story 5 movie to see how Pixar plans to continue the story of its most famous toys.
