Thunderbolts: Marvel Studios Working on The Film, Director Chosen Here What We Know

In the last few hours, it has been confirmed that Marvel Studios have been working on a film dedicated to the Thunderbolts, a well-known group made up of former supervillains from the Marvel universe. The news was reported exclusively by Deadline, and with it, the name of the direction chosen by the studio also emerged. This is Jake Schreier, known for his past in the world of video clips, with those of Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar, and for his participation in the 2013 Sundance Festival with the independent film Robot & Frank. According to the newspaper’s report, production of the film could begin as early as next summer, and Marvel Studios would have already contacted some of the MCU actors to draw up the production program for the film.

It was also reported that Eric Pearson, former writer of Black Widow, will write the screenplay for the film which, as always, will be supervised by Kevin Feige. It is currently unclear which names could make up the Thunderbolts team. The first incarnation of the team seen in the comics had Baron Zemo at the helm, while other members included TaskmasterUS AgentCrossbonesAbominationGhostSongbirdMoonstone and others. The team’s name refers to the historical nickname of General Thaddeus E. Ross, called Thunderbolt. The latter character has been played since the dawn of the MCU by William Hurt, who passed away in early 2022.

The idea that the Thunderbolts were now one step away from being included in the MCU has been around for several years, especially since more and more characters – already part of the team in comics – have begun to be inserted closer to the idea of the anti-hero. Some clues to the future birth of the team may have already been sown with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow. In fact, in the first, we see some scenes with the countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julie Louis-Dreyfuss) intent on recruiting forces to be included in a project with decidedly fewer heroic tones. The countess also managed to convince John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell) Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) to work for her, with the latter dealing with the consequences in the Hawkeye series available on Disney+. Now it is not known whether Thunderbolts will be part of Phase 4 of the MCU, nor has a window for the release of the film been communicated.
