Set in The Witcher’s universe, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s tales, “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is an animated Netflix film that follows Geralt from Rivia as he investigates a series of attacks that have altered the peace of the small coastal town of Bremervoord. In the process, he is immersed in a conflict that has confronted humans and mermaids for centuries. Is it possible to avoid war? What happened to Geralt and the main characters? The tape directed by Kang Hei Chul and written by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin begins with the mutant warlock and hired monster hunter, following the creature he believes is responsible for the attacks on divers. When sirens explain to her that this creature is not responsible, she releases her, causing her not to be paid for the job and they must go to King Usveldt’s palace for Bardo Jaskier to sing and get money.

At the party, Jaskier meets his friends Essi Daven and Zelest, who bothered him in his childhood and who is now a commander. When he begins his journey, which is joined by Jaskier and Essi, Geralt is attacked by a vodnik. He manages to defeat him and discovers that a woman is behind the attacks. Before I can hear his name, Zelest appears and murders Vodnik. King Usveldt’s illegitimate son is ready to start a war, so he deploys his forces and there is a bloody confrontation between men and mermaids. After several deaths, Geralt manages to stop the battle, but war is still an option for both sides. As Sh’eenaz and Agloval meet in secret and make plans for an uncertain future, their families try to make them see reason and fulfill their duty to their people. The only one who seems to support the princess’s romance is her aunt Melusina, the witch of the sea, who claims to understand what it is to lose true love since her sister Dahut took it from her. After the protagonist of “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” and his companions talk to lovers, they understand that someone does not want them to discover who murdered the pearl divers. Later, they find a necklace worn only by the royal family of mermaids and report to the palace to reveal the real culprit.

Who is Behind the Attacks?

Although Essi believed it was Queen Dahut, Geralt reveals that Melusina took the form of a Kraken to kill divers and blame Vodniks for unleashing war. But she was not working alone, King Usveldt is allied with the sea witch to avoid her son’s romance with Sh’eenaz. The warlock also notes that Melusina is pretending to be a princess and a confrontation occurs. Although wounded, Melusina manages to escape, and the war is prepared. Meanwhile, Sh’eenaz is determined to protect his people, and Agloval is unable to confront his father, who captures the traitors, Geralt, Jaskier, Essi, and Zelest, and orders their execution. All four manage to survive but are caught up in the war of men and mermaids. When Sh’eenaz confronts her aunt, Melusina admits that everything is part of her revenge. Queen Dahut took from the man she loved, King Basim, and wants to take charge of her daughter’s life and the destruction of the kingdom. During the battle, Zelest saves Jaskier and is killed by the witch; Essi cuts her hair to free herself from a soldier; and Prince Agloval arrives to arrest his father and defend his love for Sh’eenaz.

What Happened to Geralt de Rivia and the Two Lovers?

At the end of “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep”, Geralt manages to defeat the sea witch. Despite the wounds caused by King Usveldt, Sh’eenaz survives and Agloval ends the war. Later, the prince uses the position that Melusina offered his niece with dark intentions to take the form of his beloved and start a new life at sea. Meanwhile, Geralt de Rivia says goodbye to Essi and continues on his way with Jaskier, who proposes to head to Caingorn, in the Dragon Mountains, a place where Yennefer of Vengerberg is unlikely to meet.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep: Who Was the Real Villain?

Throughout the film, the true culprits of the tension between humans and merfolk are revealed: Melusina, Sh’eenaz’s aunt, and King Usveldt, Agloval’s father. Melusina, blinded by hatred and revenge, wanted to unleash the war in retaliation against her sister Dahut, whom she blamed for stealing her love, King Basim. To achieve this, he resorted to dark magic and became a sea witch, manipulating the merfolk to wreak havoc. On the other hand, King Usveldt, who never approved of his son Agloval’s relationship with Sh’eenaz, allowed Melusina to kill fishermen and pearl divers to make it appear that the merfolk were responsible for the attacks. Their goal was to force Agloval to see them as enemies and end the relationship. At the climax of the movie, Melusina uses her magic to transform into a monstrous Kraken and attacks Geralt and the armies of both factions. But the White Wolf, with his unwavering determination, manages to destroy the creature, killing it and thus avoiding war.

Agloval’s Sacrifice: What Does the Prince Choose?

Before dying, Melusina gave Sh’eenaz a magic potion that would allow him to take the form of his beloved and become human. However, Sh’eenaz never used it because he doubted whether Agloval would make the same sacrifice for it. In an unexpected turn, Agloval decides to drink the potion and become a merman, renouncing his identity as a human and abandoning his kingdom. Aware that his love for Sh’eenaz was above any title or wealth, he chooses life in the ocean rather than living subject to his father’s rules. His decision emotionally destroys King Usveldt, who, because of his arrogance and pride, ends up losing his two children: Zelest, her illegitimate son, dies fighting Melusina, while Agloval walks away forever, leaving the kingdom in ruins.

Geralt and Essi Daven: An Impossible Love

While the story centers on the war between humans and merfolk, the film also explores Geralt’s love life. At this point in The Witcher’s chronology, the warlock is still trying to forget Yennefer, after their stormy relationship. During her stay in Bremervoord, she develops a connection with Essi Daven, an old friend of Jaskier’s. Although the attraction between them is evident, Essi knows that her story with Geralt has no future. While she must stay in Bremervoord to take care of her family, Geralt could never settle in one place. So, without drama or resentment, both decide to separate, understanding that their love was condemned from the beginning.

Geralt’s Fate: What Happens Next?

At the end of the film, Geralt and Jaskier leave Bremervoord and head towards Caingorn, crossing the Dragon Mountains. This scene links directly to the Netflix series, specifically episode 6 of the first season, where Geralt meets Yennefer again in search of a dragon. We know that Geralt is a man of action, and although he has avoided thinking about his past, his next destination suggests that his path and that of Yennefer will cross again very soon.
