Some new images from the set of the series show The Witcher Season 3 star Henry Cavill together with the horse Roach. The fantasy series is one of Netflix’s biggest hits and the second season is one of the most watched in Netflix history. Based on the homonymous novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is about Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a monster hunter who inhabits a fantasy world populated by witches, dragons and other mythological creatures. The second season of the series saw Geralt take Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) into custody and lead her to Kaer Morhen to become a Witcher. During episode 6 a flying creature, to be exact a Chernobog, attacks Geralt and Ciri, mortally wounding Geralt’s horse, Roach, Later, Geralt frees the bard Jaskier (Joey Batey) from prison and runs into the warrior and adventurer Yarpen Zigrin, whose men give him a splendid new horse: Geralt will call him Roach, as he does with all his steeds.
The Witcher Season 3: Henry Cavill Back Together With Roach
In a recent post on Instagram Henry Cavill shared pictures of Hector, the horse chosen for the “role” of the new Roach. Cavill writes that he took Hector for a ride in the mountains and trained with him. The actor also claims to be joined by his friend and horse teacher Laszlo Juhász. As with most medieval-themed fantasies, horses are generally the most common means of transportation. It is imperative that actors know how to ride for the sake of credibility, but also for security reasons. Henry Cavill personally chose the horse that played Roach, their bond is very important, not just to replicate the relationship that Geralt and Roach possess in the source material of The Witcher, but also to strengthen the trust between the two and avoid accidents. The fact that Henry Cavill is back in the saddle so long before the return of The Witcher – whose third season is expected in 2023 – shows the actor’s great care towards this project.
