The Witcher: Blood Origin – How Does The Post-Credits Scene Anticipate The Witcher 3?

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS. The Witcher: Blood Origin, the series that marks another step forward in the expansion plan of the franchise linked to the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski with the novels, has been available in the Netflix catalog since last December 25th. The events of the prequel take place 1200 years before the events of the mother series and tell what happened before the Conjunction of the Spheres. Not only that, the 4 episodes transport us to the golden age of the elven people before the fall and the creation of the first Witcher. All fundamental elements are in the framework of the mythology of The Witcher. And speaking of the parent series, Blood Origin has a surprising post-credits scene that somehow prepares for the third season of The Witcher, the last one to star Henry Cavill.

The Witcher: Blood Origin: What Happens In The Ending And Post-Credits Scene?

In the series ending, we see how the Conjunction of the Spheres has radically transformed the continent, overrun by monsters from countless different worlds. We see the humans wrecked with their boats on the shores of the Continent (a situation that will give rise to an interracial conflict that will last for over a millennium) and we see the elves in turn scattered across space and time. Not only that but there is also a reference to the origins of the Wild Hunt when the elf Eredin (played in Blood Origin by Jacob Collins-Levy) wears a decidedly familiar mask…

The post-credits scene takes place before the fall of Cintra, which we witnessed in the first season of The Witcher. Just like in the first season, we see Ciri playing dice with her friends on the street. In the first season Ciri turns around, feeling that someone is watching her but, as we know, she doesn’t see anyone. Here, however, the camera detaches from Ciri’s face and shows us Avallac’h (Samuel Blenkin), who is observing her. In Sapkowski’s works, Avallac’h is endowed with the ability to travel between different worlds and through time. The post-credits scene makes it clear that Avallac’h arrived in Cintra too soon, i.e. at a time when Ciri is not yet aware of the prophecy that will change her destiny, she has not yet developed her extraordinary powers and is not even aware of possessing them. It is therefore likely that this “version” of Ciri is the one Avallac’h may encounter in The Witcher Season 3.
