The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 5 Ending Explained: What Happens in Dos Ríos? What Does Egwene See in Tel’aran’rhiod?

The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 5 picks up the story after the events in Rhuidean, and unlike the previous episode, which focused only on Rand and Moiraine, here we have a glimpse of all the characters again. Egwene begins training as “Dream Walker”, Rand continues his journey with the Aiel, and the conflicts in the White Tower reach a new level with the figure of Elaida. The episode mixes action, political tension, magical drama, and emotional revelations, and while new concepts continue to appear, this episode is digested better than others. With the fifth episode, we enter the second half of the third season of The Wheel of Time, which until now has been, without a doubt, the best and closest to the books. Created by Rafe Judkins and based on the epic fantasy saga of Robert Jordan, the series is broadcast by Prime Video.

Welcome once again to a new twist of The Wheel of Time. After the brutal episode of the previous week, it was logical that we lowered the intensity somewhat, as occurs with the fifth, whose title is Tel’aran’rhiod, and it already takes us into the second half of this third season. That does not mean, however, that we have not had a great delivery again that confirms the course of it. The leading role, as expected, is more divided than in the previous episode with the presence of almost all the subplots, but the main revelation has to do with Egwene, and the episode title says a lot about where the shots (or arrows) go. Enough preamble, then, and to see what it has left us, not without first noticing that SPOILERS FROM THE TRAMA nor stop remembering that they can read here our previous analyzes.

The Wheel of Time Episode 5 Ending Explained: Is Elaida Black Ajah?

From the beginning of the episode, Elaida is shown as a direct threat to Siuan. He accuses her, belittles her, and constantly provokes her. Siuan, who suspects that Elaida could be Black Ajah, decides to set him up together with Verin. The strategy works: they get Elaida to trust Verin’s sister, who is in very bad physical shape, but who manages to attract Elaida to the 13th deposit, where Aes Sedai are captured. Elaida interrogates two of these women and kills one of them for refusing to give information. The other agrees to speak, but just as she is going to reveal names, a “Gray Man” appears, trying to murder her. It is Siuan who saves her, healing her, and everything indicates that both must now work together despite their differences.

What Are Mat, Elayne and Nynaeve Doing?

As they travel to Tanchico on a Sea Folk ship, Mat, Elayne, and Nynaeve discover that these people channel Power to move at high speed, something they should not know. Mat, rebellious as always, meets Min on the ship and discovers that he has drawings of his visions … including one of himself. This completely dislodges him. On the other hand, the captain tells Nynaeve that if she wants to channel successfully, she must stop trying to control everything and simply “flow”. The metaphor of the sea as Power is very clear. At the end of the episode, Min decides to join the group, as he knows Tanchico well, and Mat says they can trust her.

What Happens in Dos Ríos?

In Dos Ríos, things get ugly. One of Mat’s sisters uses Power to protect her mother from Dain, triggering her capture and possible torture. Meanwhile, Perrin and Aiel prepare a rescue. Alanna wants to cover them with mist and smoke, but that will put her life in danger if the White Layers discover that she is an Aes Sedai. He argues with Maksim, his Guardian, and ends up disconnecting his bond so that they do not feel each other’s pain. The rescue occurs, but Mat’s mother has already been executed. Alanna is captured and wounded by arrows, although she manages to reconnect with Maksim just as he returns to help her. Together, they fight the White Layers, and they survive… for now.

What About Rand and Egwene?

Rand continues to travel with the Aiel and deal with the mistrust of many, including Aviendha, who doesn’t take the idea of having to train him very well. There is tension between the two, but there is also a certain not-so-hostile tension (come on, there is chemistry even if the hard ones are done). Meanwhile, Egwene begins his training to walk in Tel’aran’rhiod, the “uncreated place”. It is a world of dreams where all possibilities exist and, as in “Origin ”, if you die there… You die. Learn to control your mind, your environment, and who enters or leaves your dreams. In one of them, he meets Lanfear, which alarms the Wise, who take her out immediately.

What Does Egwene See in Tel’aran’rhiod?

Moiraine asks Egwene for help in delivering a message to Siuan at the White Tower through the dream world. Egwene accepts, and Moiraine warns him: if the Tower does not kneel before Rand, they will lose the Last Battle. The farewell between Moiraine and Siuan is heartbreaking. Although they can no longer fix what they lost, they promise to find themselves in other lives. Later, Egwene tries to find Nynaeve but sees all his friends in happy dreams: Mat with a family, Perrin with Faile… until he reaches Rand. When he’s about to get closer, he sees how Lanfear kisses him. Egwene screams a “No!” loaded with jealousy and rage. This is likely to unleash very serious consequences.

What Are Lanfear and Rand Up To?

Rand meets Lanfear in a dream and tells him that he remembers who she was before releasing the Dark One: a woman who wanted to change the world. Lanfear confesses that all he wants now is him. She is in love. Will Rand fall? Are you pretending? It is difficult to know, but the truth is that the connection between the two continues to grow… and Egwene has witnessed everything.

The Secret of Navigators

Elaine, Nynaeve, and Mat are shipped to Tanchico. The redhead bores others with her studies on the geography of the city, but she does so to find possible traces of the Black Ajah or relatives of Liandrin. Nynaeve doesn’t stop vomiting, and Mat is sick of being locked up, but going on deck involves breaking the word they’ve pawned on the boat’s navigator. Finally, they end up going up anyway and discover that the reason they didn’t want them to go up was so that the Sedai Aes didn’t find out that the navigators control the winds through magic and therefore wanted to recruit them: Elaine agrees, however, to keep the secret. But there is more: Mat meets Min, the girl of premonitions who is obviously on board for following him. He mocks that she is obsessed with him and she denies it, but the thing changes when he finds an illustration of his hand in which he hangs by some gallows, as in that vision that Min had. He is embarrassed, but he says he disdains the matter because it was also not fulfilled that he would end up killing Rand, and the vision, therefore, could be wrong once again.

Rescue Mission

In Dos Ríos, and after Mat’s mother and daughters were kidnapped by the White Layers, Perrin he is crippled by guilt and assembles a rescue group to free them. Since a Loial is more difficult for him to go unnoticed, he designates Bain and Chiad to accompany him, his loyal servants, to repay the debt of honor they claim to owe him. But they added Faile, the young hunter who had been hanging around two episodes behind her insistently and who is not even willing to accept no. And also Alanna Sedai, despite protests from her partner Maksim (Taylor Napier) that destroyed since the trio was broken by the death of Ihvon, is obsessed with avenging him. In the White Layers camp, meanwhile, the officer Dain Bornhald (Jay Duffy), who does not stop looking to find Perrin for having given this death to his father, approaches the cage of the captives to try to extract information from them before the ruthless captain does. Eamon Valda (Abdul Salis), whose interrogations are characterized by being much more exhaustive and their methods infinitely crueller.

When one of the girls tries to take away his keys, there is a struggle that ends with him being thrown into the distance, in what can only be a manifestation of the One Power. The uproar attracts Eamon, as hunting “witches” is precisely his thing, and before exposing one of his daughters, Natti (Juliet Howland), Mat’s mother, the fact is adjudicated when clearly it was not… Alanna, meanwhile, and in order to give Perrin and the aiel more leeway, has covered the place with a mist in which Eamon immediately smells the presence of the One Power (analogously to what Moraine felt in the mist of Rhuidean). This allows Perrin’s group to reach out to the girls and free them, although without a trace of Natti, whom they later find sadly tied to a pole and with clear signs of having been tortured and burned. Eamon, to all this, has found Alanna, who begins to receive crossbow shots. Maksim arrives in time to help her, but at the cost of also receiving her darts. Perrin, for his part, finally meets Bain and is wounded, although when he is about to be finished off, Faile intervenes, throwing a knife and ending the White Cap…
