Toad takes Mario to the princess’s castle, who is aware of Bowser’s plans and has the plan to avoid the same fate as the King of Penguins: request the help of the neighboring kingdom Jungle Kingdom. The plumber wants to go with her to rescue her brother, but Peach isn’t sure of her abilities. To join the mission, Mario must pass a skill test. During the ceremony, Peach pulls out an ice flower from her bouquet and freezes Bowser with it. However, the villain partially thaws and activates a Banzai Bill. Just then, Mario appears and diverts the explosives into the pipe that sent him to the Mushroom Kingdom. This causes Browse Castle to move to Brooklyn. Thanks to Peach getting a Super Star, Mario, and Luigi defeat Browse, shrinking him with a mushroom and locking him in a bottle. After saving the Mushroom Kingdom and Brooklyn, the siblings are at home, which is now in Princess Peach’s kingdom. In the post-credits scene of The Super Mario Bros. Star Chris Pratt, however, already knows that these post-credits scenes could be a tease of what a sequel could explore.
“Listen, there’s a post-credit sequence at the end of the movie that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be,” Pratt revealed to CBR. “And that makes me very, very excited. There was talk of Luigi’s Mansion. It was a Gamecube game. I think that would be great.”
With Luigi actor Charlie Day expressing interest in starring in an adaptation of Luigi’s Mansion, the franchise’s future could rest more with spinoffs than a direct continuation of this story. Whatever the future holds, it will surely depend on how critics and audiences welcome this animated adventure.
