The Silent Sea Ending Explained: Who Is Luna And What Is The Point Of Lunar Water? Who is Dead? Spoilers!
The Silent Sea is available on Netflix! Netflix received another sinister pre-Christmas drama series: the lunar mystery The Silent Sea. Because nothing says Christmas better than an abandoned and spooky moon base! This drama stars Bae Doona as Dr Song, an astrobiologist turned ethologist who agrees to go on a mission to the lunar base where her sister died in order to retrieve a mysterious “sample”.
The story takes place in the probably too near future where climate change has rapidly reduced the Earth’s water supply, leaving the surviving population to fight for this unevenly distributed resource. Song is part of a team comprising a doctor, two pilots, a few engineers and several apparently experienced astronauts, including Captain Han, played by Gong Yoo. While Captain Han is in charge of the mission, Dr. Song has control over all decisions relating to the unstable and highly dangerous sample. We tell you all about the end of Season 1 of The Silent Sea on Netflix!
The Silent Sea Season 1 Ending Explained
At the end of Season 1 of The Silent Sea, Captain Han dies. As the Balhae begins to be inundated with lunar water, Captain Han receives error messages from the sensors in the chamber where he, the rest of the crew, and Luna are hiding. He realizes what he needs to do and leaves. He locks the door behind him and triggers the airlock to depressurize, and the sensors start working inside the rooms. It is then thrown into the lunar atmosphere by the pressure of the water.
At the end of Season 1 of The Silent Sea, Luna approaches him and tries to return his badge, on which his daughter has placed a sticker. But Captain Han dies before he can take him. Before he left, he promised his daughter that he would come back. Although he could not do so, his actions may have enabled his daughter to have a long and healthy life. Now we know that two shuttles headed for the moon. If Mr. Kim sent one, the other was probably sent by RX. The South Korean government most likely destroyed the RX shuttle, and it was Mr. Kim’s shuttle that Luna and the others got on.
Who Is Luna And What Is The Point Of Lunar Water?
Luna is the 73rd clone used in the experiment. She is the only clone that survives the test, which makes her the one on which the fate of humanity rests. Not only can Luna tolerate water, but she even acquires certain abilities from it. Lunar water heals his wounds exponentially faster and has apparently given him the power to walk in the lunar atmosphere without the need for a suit or a breathing apparatus.
When lunar water comes in contact with an organic substance, such as blood, it begins to expand rapidly. Under the leadership of Dr Song’s sister, scientists at Balhae have been working on how to make lunar water safe for drinking. Dr Song’s sister and colleagues studied cell fusion and genetic combinations to develop methods that allow humans to survive in lunar water. Eventually, Director Choi and the rest of the government decided to shut down the Balhae because they feared the news of their horrific experiences would reach the public.
The military was dispatched to ensure that no crew member left the facility after being exposed to lunar water. Director Choi then sends Dr Song to Balhae as she believes the latter will never reveal his sister’s horrible secrets.
