The Sandman Season 2: Episode Titles Revealed of Neil Gaiman’s Series

Good news for fans of The Sandman, the titles of the first six episodes of the second season of the Netflix series based on Neil Gaiman’s comics have been revealed. After the announcement of the arrival of Dead Boy Detective, a new supernatural series inspired by the Gaiman comics and connected to the universe of The Sandman, other happy news related to the series also arrived from the reopening of the set of The Sandman Season 2 to the titles of six of 12 episodes of the second season. And there is a lot of news about The Sandman Season 2, from the new characters to the plot. But let’s take it one step at a time. And now we’ll tell you all about them. More than a year has passed since The Sandman arrived on Netflix ready to become the new global phenomenon of the fantasy genre. A masterpiece series that has managed to conquer everyone with a story between mythology and history, religion and fantasy of the highest quality on the figure of Morpheus, the king of dreams. But after seeing the first season of The Sandman and hoping for its renewal which promptly arrived, what do we know so far about The Sandman Season 2?  Where are we with the filming of The Sandman Season 2, who are the new characters and when will the new season of this highly appreciated fantasy series debut on Netflix? After the first images were stolen from the set of the new episodes, unfortunately, the actors’ and screenwriters’ strike in the USA has interrupted the filming of the series, so far. But what do we know so far about The Sandman Season 2? Neil Gaiman, the author of the comic on which the series is based and consultant for the Netflix serial adaptation, gives us some small clues about the new chapter of The Sandman, but also some shots stolen on the set.

The Sandman Season 2: What Do We Know So Far?

One thing is certain about The Sandman Season 2: the script has been ready for some time, since last May 2023, and the first scenes of the new season have already been shot. This was revealed by Neil Gaiman himself who had revealed that he had prepared all the scripts and was working on the sets for the second season of The Sandman and also the photos leaked from the set of the new episodes of The Sandman Season 2.  Furthermore, the interpreter of Desire, Mason Alexander Park, had made references to the new episodes of The Sandman Season 2 saying that they would arrive in a “really fantastic way”. In June 2023, there was confirmation of the start of filming, which took place in London at the Shepperton Studio and on site, at the end of June 2023, in Dorset. The production team was spotted at Lulworth Estate and further filming took place on Durdle Door beach. According to other eyewitnesses, some shooting also took place in Parkstone Cemetery in Poole.

Unfortunately, the SAG-AFTRA strike shut down filming in July 2023 just two weeks after it began. “The SAG-AFTRA strike has begun. The Sandman has stopped filming – said Gaiman – along with everything else that was creaking without writers”. Now, however, once the strike is over, filming will begin in November 2023. And some shots stolen from the set of the Netflix series confirm this.

The Sandman Season 2: Episode Titles

• The Song of Orpheus, named after the special issue of the same name will focus on Ruairi O’Connor’s Orpheus.
• More Devils Than Vast Hell Can Hold, which references the A Midsummer Night’s Dream number of the same name.
• Brief Lives, which takes its name from the issue of the same name.
• FamilyBlood
• The Ruler of Hell, referring to Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer.
• Season of Mists, named after the comic book collection of the same name. The aforementioned Odin, Thor, and Loki will most likely appear in this episode.

The Sandman Season 2: All New Characters

Among the big news of the second season of The Sandman is the arrival of new characters:

• Delirium, the youngest of the “eternals” and a member of the family together with Dream, Death, the twin’s Desire and Despair, Destruction and Destiny. Delirio, in the comics, is depicted as a young woman with colored hair and ruined clothes. Her character? Very fickle ranging between hallucinations, psychosis, and sanity.
• Destruction – Another of the “eternals” who has abandoned his kingdom. Destruction is described as rugged, physically imposing, disarmingly beautiful, with bright, curious eyes, a hearty laugh, and a generous heart.
• Destiny – The eldest of the “eternals,” described as a stoic, all-knowing, monk-like figure who spends his days walking barefoot along the paths of his labyrinthine garden.
• Wanda – Transgender woman, driver, and security officer for an exclusive high-end travel company. She will be the personal guide and conduit for Dream and Delirium during their sojourn in the waking world.

In addition to those already mentioned, The Sandman is also looking for faces for other characters: Thor, Odin, Loki, King Oberon and Queen Titania.

The Sandman Season 2: Eurydice, Hades, Persephone, and Orpheus Also Arrive

Among the new characters of the series confirmed there are also several iconic names from Greek mythology such as Eurydice, Hades, Persephone as well as Orpheus who we had already seen played by Ruairi O’Connor when filming of the new season began in June. Orpheus comes to the comics for the first time in issue #29 as Falbes and Reflections. Orpheus is the son of Morpheus and Calliope and is usually presented with the figure of a disembodied head. The introduction of Eurydice, Persephone, Hades, and Orpheus will not surprise readers of the comic. These characters play a major role in The Sandman Special #1, “The Song of Orpheus” (1991). The story is a retelling of the original myth, perfectly intertwined with The Sandman mythos. Season 2 will cover this story, as well as Volume 4, “Season of Mists,” and Volume 7, “Short Lives”.

The Sandman Season 2: The Latest New Entries from the Cast?

There are three new official cast members of The Sandman Season 2 and they are Wil Coban (The Boys in the Boat, Netflix’s Cursed), Andre Flynn (The Musketeers, Jamestown), and Joel Burman (Sunshine on Leith musical). Their roles in the Netflix series, however, have not yet been revealed.

The Sandman Season 2 Will Combine Multiple Short Stories?

“It’s a lot of fun because we take some of the short stories and we put them into the body of the main story,” said Neil Gaiman. “We’ve found ways to make one plot flow into the next one that we didn’t have before. So it’s built, it’s shaped and built”.

When The Sandman Season 2 Comes Out on Netflix?

The new episodes of The Sandman Season 2 could be released between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.
