The Rings of Power: What Are The Rings And What Does Each One Do? Here Is Every Ring Power Explained

The title of The Rings of Power is a reference to the famous rings of power from Tolkien’s books, which were given to humans, dwarves and elves as part of the macabre plan of Sauron, who intended to use those rings to have control over all the creatures of Middle-earth. We know that the rings were created by an elf named Celebrimbor, who was tricked by Sauron, and that they have special powers that seem good but can corrupt and consume anyone who wears them, like Gollum and Frodo in the events of Lord of the Rings.

The Rings of Power and The Rings Explained (and to whom they belong)

According to Tolkien’s history, Sauron had not been vanquished by this point (and Galadriel, here played by Morfyd Clark, was the only one willing to entertain that possibility), actually using a disguise to make him believe that those rings they could change the fate of the world for the better, but in reality, he was creating his ring to control everyone else, and that ends up causing more trouble than they could imagine. In total, as Galadriel narrates at the beginning of Lord of the Rings, 3 rings are given to the elves, 7 to the dwarves and 9 to the humans, who were the first to be consumed by the rings because they only sought power. In addition to this ring is Sauron’s, and the interesting thing is that each one does something different.

The One Ring

This is the first ring that we met in the movies, it is a golden ring with engravings in the ancient language of the elves, it was created in the heart of Mordor, in Mount Doom, the ad was used by Sauron to have control over the rest of the rings, and about the characters who wore them,

According to The Lord of the Rings, this ring has the power to make someone invisible and prolong their life, but it is also connected to Sauron and has so much evil that little by little it transforms the wearer into something terrible and deformed (inside and outside). This ring, which seems to have a mind of its own and self-awareness, gives Sauron his power, but at the same time it has something of him inside it, and it can only be destroyed by the fire of Mount Doom, the problem is that it does everything possible to return to its owner.

The 3 Rings Of The Elves

The elves are the brightest and most powerful creatures in Middle Earth, that is why they manage to feel Sauron when the ring is placed and they sense his plans, so they hide the 3 rings that were given to them, and that is the reason why which do not end up as slaves of Sauron, as happens with humans.

Galadriel received Nenya, which we can see Cate Blanchett wearing in the movies, where it is explained that she is the ring of water. Another of the rings is Vilya which belongs to Elrond (it passed to him after belonging to the king), this is the ring of air, and finally, there is Narya, which is the ring of fire that was given to Círdan, known as Lord of the Heavens of Mythlond.

Narya supposedly had the power to grant resistance to people, Nenya (which is made of Mithril) provided protection and is believed to also be able to hide elves from evil forces, and Vilya was the most powerful ring of the three and was believed it had the power to heal and preserve.

The 7 Rings of The Dwarfs

History says that the 7 rings of the dwarves helped them to create their kingdoms and fortunes, but that they did not aorrupt them as Sauron thought, but ended up causing discord among themselves, and it is said that, as in the case of Bilbo, also led them to live longer.

Durin III received the most powerful ring, but 6 more were given to the most skilled and important dwarves, the problem is that, although Sauron could not use them to control them, these rings increased the dwarves’ greed and therefore their wealth, and that’s what ends up attracting the dragon Smaug that we meet in The Hobbit.

Smaug was not the only dragon that was attracted by the riches of the dwarves, more came to their kingdoms and this was what led to the destruction of 4 of the rings, while the other 3 were recovered by Sauron, who later used them as a way to convince the dwarves to help him get his lost ring back, but they refused.

The 9 Rings of Men

These rings are what led to the creation of the Nazgûl, which are humans who were corrupted by the power of the rings and ended up as undead who serve Sauron almost as slaves.

These rings brought fortune and extended the lives of humans (and we know that the inhabitants of Númenor were obsessed with eternal life), the problem is that they were under the total control of Sauron, even when he no longer had his ring, so the Humans who used them lost themselves in their quest for power and immortality. This is what leads to the destruction of Númenor, which was the most powerful city, from which Isildur and his heir, Aragorn (who is revealed to be in his 80s in the extended version of Lord of the Rings), are eventually born.
