The Rings of Power Season 2: The Photos Of A New And Immense Elven Set!
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is one of the most surprising television series of recent years: the work, conceived by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, brings to light the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings on the small screen, considering that Prime did not own the rights to exploit The Silmarillion. Therefore, in the show, set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, specific events belonging to the universe of Arda invented by JRR Tolkien are never mentioned, but just generic facts so you can make up the rest. This aspect of reinterpretation, in reality, has not been very well received and many enthusiasts have rejected the project for this reason.
Despite the criticisms received for a first season that narratively did not live up to expectations, the scenographic sector of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power had very few recriminations, amazing most viewers. This will also be the case in the second season, which will further explore Middle earth. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is already filming, and the first set of photos is starting to leak. These portray what is clearly an Elven city, with some splendid scenery, including a palatial gazebo-style chapel in the central plaza and religious-style architecture throughout. The level of production already suggests that Amazon Studios is investing once again a large budget in this series and the results speak for themselves.
The Rings Of Power Season 2: Set Images
As for the exact location of this new location, immediate reactions on Twitter seem to speculate that it’s Eregion, the Elven realm that stood beside the West Gate of Khazad-dum – part of which we saw in Season 1 of The Rings of Power. The capital of Eregion, Ost-in-Edhill, was seen (but not named) in the Rings of Power season 1 finale; it is at Ost-in-Edhil where master smith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) forged the first three Elven rings and where Sauron (or “Halbrand”) influenced the elves to create the rings.
But while we’ve seen Ost-in-Edhill, there’s still much of Eregion we need to explore, before we get to another pivotal piece of JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth story. It was in Eregion that Sauron launched his first major offensive, known as the Siege of Eregion. The siege marked the beginning of the conflict known as the War of the Elves and Sauron and led to the destruction of Eregion and the exodus of the elves to new kingdoms such as Rivendell. Before this fate befalls, however, The Rings of Power has the potential to expand on Tolkien’s story and give fans something truly new to explore within the old mythos. This appears to be the series’ saving grace: having the ability to play with enough lore to offer both casual and hardcore fans a fun and unprecedented viewing experience.
After a decent result on Prime Video, filming of the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been underway since October 2022 and we are starting to glimpse a little bit of the production. This time the works, after New Zealand, have moved to England and just to the United Kingdom, as recent photos demonstrate (via Screen Rant) the creation of a very special set is underway. The photos seem to reveal what appears to be a new elven city, but we can’t say for sure since we lack so much fundamental information.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power arrives September 2, 2022, on Prime Video with production from Amazon Studios, Tolkien Estate, Tolkien Trust, HarperCollins, New Line Cinema and executive produced by Eugene Kelly, Bruce Richmond, Sharon Tal Yguado, JA Bayona, Belén Atienza, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Justin Doble, Callum Greene, Lindsey Weber, JD Payne, Patrick McKay. The first season closed definitively on October 14, 2022, with the episode Amalgam.
