The Peripheral: Season 2 Announced By Amazon Prime Video
It’s official: The Peripheral will have Season 2. Amazon Prime Video has announced the renewal of the sci-fi series with Chloë Grace Moretz, confirming what was already expected and had been in the air since the end of last year. It was Vernon Sanders, head of the Amazon Studios TV division, who anticipated to Collider the fact that the writers were already working on the scripts for season 2. The first season of The Peripheral (here is our review) debuted on streaming last October 21 with 8 episodes and ended on a cliffhanger. At the time, Lisa Joy, executive producer of the show along with Jonathan Nolan (both creators of Westworld), had expressed in an interview with Radio Times the desire to be able to expand the series into a new season. Now both Joy and Nolan said they are thrilled to continue the journey with new episodes to discover the world based on the novel by William Gibson.

The Peripheral follows the story of Flynne Fisher (Moretz) in 2032 dystopian America. Intelligent and ambitious, Flynne does her best to keep the family together in a difficult context and with no prospects for the future. Until the future, itself comes knocking on her door and so Flynne, together with her brother Burton, finds herself catapulted into the virtual world of augmented reality. In addition to Chloë Grace Moretz, the cast of the first season of the series also includes Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Adelind Horan, Alex Hernandez, Katie Leung, Julian Moore-Cook, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy, and Austin Rising.
About five months after its broadcast on Prime Video, The Peripheral receives the green light the making a second season. The sci-fi series, inspired by William Gibson and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, will therefore return to show us a possible hyper-technological future in which virtual reality takes on a whole new meaning.
The head of the television division of Amazon Studios has spent sweet words towards The Peripheral and its creators: “William [Gibson’s] mind-blowing story together with the brilliant minds of Scott, Jonathan, and Lisa has produced an unforgettable journey for our audiences around the world and are intrigued by how they have brought the series to life. We look forward to extending our partnership with Warner Bros. and Kilter Films as this ambitious series continues to show itself”. The words of Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are also of the same tenor: “We are excited to continue the journey towards the second season and to dig deeper within the incredible world created by Gibson. Also, on behalf of Scott Smith, Vincenzo Natali and the entire team, we are grateful to Amazon and most importantly the fans”.
