The Penguin: The First Teaser of The Series Is Dark and Distressing Coming on Max
The Penguin, currently in production, will consist of eight episodes. After Paul Dano’s Riddlerkills Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), a major Gotham City mob boss, he floods the main downtown area in a coordinated terrorist attack, leaving Farrell’s Cobblepot with a city in chaos and a power vacuum within Gotham’s underworld. Along with Farrell stars in the series Cristin Milioti (Made for Love) in the role of the daughter of Carmine, Sofia Falcone; Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Carmine’s son, Alberto Falcone; and Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Gotham mobster Salvatore Maroni. They are joined by Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, and David H. Holmes.
The Penguin is certainly one of the most interesting characters in the world of Batman: Oswald Cobblepot, one of the leaders of Gotham City’s criminal underworld has always fascinated millions of comic book readers with some versions, on the small and big screen, as memorable as the one embodied by Danny DeVito in Batman Returns (1992). That said, within The Batman directed by Matt Reeves (The War – Planet of the Apes) we saw this time Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) embody the character, who immediately managed to attract attention.
The Penguin: The First Teaser of The Series Is Dark and Distressing
This has led Warner Bros. to think about a television series entirely focused on Farrell’s The Penguin that is currently in production and serves as the glue between The Batman and The Batman 2. From what we’ve learned, the show should be about the villain’s rise in the crime world, while also presenting important details about his past. That said, like a bolt from the blue, the first teaser relating to the work was uploaded directly to the official HBO Max YouTube channel, showing some complete scenes and some behind-the-scenes sequences. The result looks interesting because it combines The Sopranos with the dark and twilight atmosphere of The Batman.
The Penguin, produced by 6th & Idaho, DC Studios, Dylan Clark Productions and Warner Bros. Television Studios with concept by Lauren LeFranc. The realization, arriving in 2024 on HBO Max, sees a cast composed in detail by Cristin Milioti who plays Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown who lends his face to Salvatore Maroni, Michael Zegen in the features of Alberto Falcone and also Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Theo Rossi, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, and David H. Holmes.
