The Penguin Season 2: Matt Reeves is Starting Negotiations For A Second Season
The Penguin was originally conceived as a miniseries for HBO, in the wake of the success of The Batman by Reeves in 2022. The film enhanced the appearance of the world’s “greatest detective” Batman (Robert Pattinson), which made it appropriate to explore street crime and corruption more in its history, including its wealthy opponent Oswald Cobb, alias “The Penguin“. Interpreted by Colin Farrell, this version of Oz played a small role in the film but was made up for the 8-episode series.
The showrunner of the series, Lauren LeFranc however, left a door open to the future of The Penguin, declaring at The Direct: “We have given everything this season. To do a second season, we should feel that we can overcome what has already been done. I believe there are still aspects to be explored about these characters, however terrible they are”.
On the television future of The Batman and his characters, Reeves recently mentioned a possible series of individual protagonists between one film and another, always conceived as self-conclusive stories. In an interview, Reeves explained: “We talked about doing other series… you can have an epic and romantic experience in this criminal saga but with independent stories. Oz’s story is Oz’s, and any other stories would also have the same approach”.
