The Night Agent Season 1: Unanswered Questions and Ending Explanation

Netflix‘s spy thriller TV series The Night Agent has done a good job of solving most of the loose ends, but there are still a few questions fans are asking as they prepare for season 2, including Cui: What will happen to Peter Sutherland’s (Gabriel Basso) and Rose Larkin’s (Luciane Buchanan) emerging relationship now that Peter has been named Night Agent by President Travers (Kari Matchett)? What will be Secret Service Agent Chelsea Arrington‘s (Fola Evans-Akingbola) new role as part of the President’s escort? Collider then thought to answer these questions as The Night Agent continues its successful run maintaining itself in the top 10 TV shows on the streaming service.

The Night Agent Season 1: What Will Become of Peter and Rose’s Relationship?

It took a while, but from the moment Rose dialed The Night Action‘s number and Peter Sutherland answered the phone, it was clear they had chemistry. When Peter agrees to help her find out what happened to her murdered aunt and uncle and becomes her bodyguard, their relationship continues to progress, and they learn to trust each other completely. Towards the last few episodes, it became very apparent that the two were ready to take their relationship to the next level, and by the end of the season, they officially became a couple. However, just as Peter is promoted to Night Agent, the two are forced to part ways.

In any case, we have a strong feeling that Peter and Rose will reunite in some way already in Season 2. Peter will have returned from his top-secret mission as Night Agent and will return to Rose in the United States or Rose will join him wherever his job takes him: They work too well both as a couple and as a team at work. The Night Agent has done a great job of finding two actors with perfect chemistry and writing two flawless characters. The past few months have seen several Netflix spy thrillers, like Treason and The Recruit, that haven’t developed the chemistry between their leads with the same aplomb.

What is Peter’s First Assignment as a Night Agent?

The last scene of the first season has Peter boarding a small private jet, opening a laptop computer, and receiving instructions on where and what he will do during his first assignment as an official Night Agent working for the Night Action program. The cliffhanger then leaves us wondering where this might end at the start of season two. After leaving Rose behind and clearing her name, he starts a new career chapter. Hopefully, the showrunners make this the genesis of next season’s storyline and Rose joins him in some way or returns home unscathed and with some experience under his belt that he can leverage for any national crisis that occurs later.

How Will Chelsea’s Role Change in POTUS Detail?

Chelsea Arrington takes her job as a Secret Service agent very seriously. Rightly so, because your job of protecting valuable assets that could be used as leverage against the United States is extremely important. It took her a while to get close to Agent Erik Monks (D.B. Woodside), whom she felt was a weak link and too old-fashioned after returning from a stint in rehab. Though she was in the back seat when she was assigned to protect Maddie Redfield, the vice president’s daughter, in the second season will take on much greater responsibility, as she also got a promotion. In addition, you will be part of the Secret Service’s larger plan: to work to ensure the safety of President Travers.

As we saw in Season 1, the President’s Secret Service failed, and if it hadn’t been for Peter‘s dogged determination, President Travers would have been killed because some scoundrels had planted a bomb aboard Marine One, ready to explode as soon as the wheels lifted. We hope to see you bring your professionalism and experience to presidential surveillance and that similar incidents do not occur again. Also, not to be underestimated is the possibility that the show’s creators will bring back Maddie‘s character next season and continue to develop the tight bond that developed between the two while Arrington was under guard.

What Will Happen to Diane Farr?

Chief of staff to the president is Diane Farr, one of the best characters and aspects of the series, played by Hong Chau. Throughout season 1 it was hard to figure out what her interests were, whom she was truly supporting, and whom she was trying to bring down. At times, it seemed that she completely agreed with Rose and Peter in exposing the murderers of Rose’s aunt and uncle, only to change his mind and betray them to cover up his and the Vice President’s involvement in the subway bombing featured in the series opening sequence.

She is great at convincing the viewer of her loyalty to her, then doing a quick about-face and leaving us dry-mouthed. Eventually, though, her game is over, and her luck runs out at Camp David when she is finally exposed for her double-dealing that she conducts on her and her attempt to frame Peter. We would very much like to see her deal with this fall and return in some way in season 2, or perhaps deal with prison. Her character is undoubtedly one of the most compelling and well-acted on the show.

What About Vice President Redfield?

We’ve left the most despicable character for last: the violent and treacherous Vice President Redfield. Audiences of The Night Agent yearn for the death penalty for participating in multiple assassination attempts and for being a poor parent to Maddie, whom he blamed for his sister’s death as a child. Yes, he tried to apologize for the abuse of her daughter at the end of the season, but the damage had already been done. By fans of the series, he has been called one of the most assholes, deplorable and self-absorbed characters we’ve seen on TV in recent times”: a pretty telling description.
