The Apple TV+ series is a historical drama that gives us a new perspective on what was experienced during the Second World War when the world of fashion had to adapt to a new context and a world that was beginning to lean more toward the austere and the practical, which had an unexpected effect on modern fashion.

At the center of it all are the legendary Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, who had very different ways of thinking about fashion, which gives rise to a kind of battle in which one seeks to surpass the other, all while the Nazis come to Paris and take control of one of the great fashion capitals of the world. The New Look Trailer

The first trailer for The New Look introduces the great Juliette Binoche as the legendary Coco Chanel, who at that time was the queen of fashion and Paris, and Ben Mendelsohn as Christian Dior, who find themselves at a time when they are looking for a new look and a new way of dressing your followers. Dior and Chanel were part of the world of high fashion, but what they did had a great influence on the rest of the world and here we can see a little of what was behind their collections, their ideas, and their styles.

The Cast of The New Look

Ben Mendelssohn, of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Outsider and The Dark Knight Rises, plays Christian Dior, while Oscar winner Juliette Binoche, who has appeared in films such as The English Patient, High Life and Chocolat, plays Coco Chanel. The series features other great actors such as Maisie Williams as Catherine Dior; John Malkovich as Lucien Lelong; Emily Mortimer as Elsa Lombardi; Claes Bang as Spatz; and Glenn Close as Carmel Snow.

What is The New Look About?

The series synopsis reads: Set during the Nazi occupation of Paris during World War II, The New Look focuses on the pivotal moment in the 20th century when the French city brought the world back to life through its icon of Christian Dior fashion. As Dior rises to prominence with its innovative and iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put in jeopardy. The intertwined saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals, from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga, and more; and offers a stunning view of the workshop, designs, and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior.

The series was filmed entirely in Paris, where the famous designers’ workshops were reconstructed and a series was created that allows us to see how Dior became a legend and how this led Chanel to transform, while the world around him lived the terror of war and Nazi occupation. Fashion, in this case, became a ray of hope and an escape for many.
