The Marvels: Who is the Villain of the Film? Here’s What We Know So Far!
The first trailer of The Marvels brought to light for the first time the villain of the film, who seems to be very strong given that in one of the final scenes of the trailer (from minute 1:40), she seems to be standing up to all three superheroines in the film namely Monica Rambeau, Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan. The villain can be seen clearly at 1:39 of the trailer for The Marvels. She, played by Zawe Ashton is a Kree as was Ronan the Accuser (seen in Guardians of the Galaxy). In the image, on the right, you can see a woman wearing makeup like Ronan.
The villain of The Marvels in fact holds a hammer very similar to that of Ronan the Accuser. After the revelation of his entry into the cast, the first theories had begun to circulate among fans; but with the appearance of this particular weapon shown in the trailer for The Marvels, some guesses have become more focused. In addition to this, the description of the photos made available by Disney speak for themselves: Zawe Ashton plays the terrible Kree general Dar-Benn.
Who is Dar-Benn in Marvel Comics?
Dar-Benn is a Kree alien and a former Supreme Commander of the Kree Empire. Along with Generals Ael-Dan and four others, he plotted to assassinate Kree Emperor Clumsy Foulup and Dwi-Zann. With a trick they blamed the Skrulls for what happened. It was an excuse to start a war against the Skrulls. Dar-Benn has standard Kree abilities, twice the strength of an average human.

The Trailer for The Marvels
At the beginning of the trailer, Monica Rambeau can be seen who, while in space, receives a visit from Nick Fury, who is preparing to investigate a strange rift similar to the one that gave the woman her powers. When Monica touches this crack, she switches places with Kamala Khan. From here the story connects back to the post-credit scene of the Ms. Marvel series finale, where protagonist Kamala had switched places with Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. Monica, Kamala, and Carol involuntarily continue to switch places, until finally all three are reunited and find themselves having to fight against some Kree.
The Marvels and the Future of Captain Marvel
The Marvels is the sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel. Brie Larson returns to reprise her role as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel alongside Teyonah Parris who reprises her role as Monica Rambeau, plus Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Zawe Ashton as the villain. The story of The Marvels is connected to that of the TV series Ms. Marvel starring Iman Vellani and with the upcoming series Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson.
Brie Larson dropped several interviews during and after the D23 Expo event, in which she talked about her character’s future and what to expect in the Captain Marvel sequel. When asked by The Direct how long she will still be playing Carol Danvers, Brie was very vague and replied:
I do not know. Does anyone want me to come back again? I really don’t know. I don’t know the answer to this question.
Speaking instead to the microphones of Good Morning America, the actress revealed something more about her role in the film The Marvels:
The first film told her origin story, explaining who Carol Danvers is. Now with The Marvels we will dig deeper into its complexity. There’s so much more of her to explore beyond that. There are parts of her that aren’t very beautiful, we’ll see that a heroine is not a person who makes the right decision every time.
