The Lord of the Rings: The War of The Rohirrim All There Is To Know About The Anime
JRR Tolkien’s fanbase has been quite divided after watching the first teaser trailer for Amazon Studios’ live-action TV series The Rings of Power, which aired during Super Bowl 2022. Now, it’s time to take a first look at another project, completely different but always set in the fascinating Middle-earth.
This is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim or an anime-style feature film for which Variety has published the first official concept art. It is important to specify that the image was made in pre-production and is useful for the director and his team to imagine what the final product could be. It is therefore not a picture of the film.
The wonderful concept art shows a vast and crowded battlefield, with what should be Rohirrim soldiers in the distance and a group closer, including an Olifant decked out for battle. This should belong to the Haradrim army. Ice-covered mountains and ominous clouds are visible in the background.
The image is very reminiscent of the aesthetics of the Peter Jackson trilogy and it is no surprise to discover that in the team of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim there are also the art director of the film trilogy of The Lord of the Rings Alan Lee and the famous Tolkien illustrator John Howe, who also worked on the Jackson trilogy.
The Plot Of The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim
The screenplay for the film was entrusted to Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. The two have just one other film under the title of 2013’s The Sorrow. Phoebe is the daughter of The Lord of the Rings co-writer Philippa Boyens and executive producer of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
The plot of the film has not yet been disclosed but according to Variety the story will center on Helm Hammerhand aka the King of Rohan and the construction of Helm’s Deep! This was seen in Peter Jackson’s The Two Towers movie.
When And Where Can The Film Be Seen?
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation have announced the official release date of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, setting it in theaters for April 21, 2024 . Fans will be pleased to know that Peter Jackson fully supported the project:
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim was directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Joseph Chou. The two made the anime Blade Runner: Black Lotus together. Philippa Boyens said:
They are in summers for the creative talent that has come together to bring this epic and throbbing story to life, from Kenji Kamiyama’s mastery to the truly stellar cast.
