The Last of Us: Finally The First Teaser For The HBO Series! Shows Ellie and Joel
Streaming service HBO Max has published a video on YouTube to present the most important upcoming titles to the public. Among them is the highly anticipated TV series based on the hit video game The Last of Us. The show tells of an apocalyptic future in which a virus turns people into killer monsters. A girl, Ellie, proves to be immune to this incredible disease and a man, Joel, must be able to get her safely to the other side of the country, so that her DNA and blood can be studied to create. a cure, which saves the world. The HBO Max promotional video shows the first live-action images of The Last of Us starting at 1:43 minute of the video below:
To emphasize the importance of the title, HBO Max has included a black screen with the words “and the premiere of the original HBO title”, so as not to mix the first live-action images of The Last of Us with the rest of the presentation. The first scene is dedicated to Joel and Ellie, who are preparing to cross a bridge in a completely snowy landscape. In the next scene, Joel teaches Ellie how to hold a gun in case of need.

From the video game plot, we learn that Joel had a daughter. At 1:57, most likely, the girl he’s holding is her daughter, almost certainly shown in a flashback. After the second minute, we see instead a character named Bill, played by Nick Offerman. The last image is dedicated to a map, which shows how the world has been infected with the virus! Joel and Ellie are played respectively by Pedro Pascal (known to the general public for having been in TV series such as Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey, who debuted her television career in Game of Thrones. It is therefore a small reunion! The casting of the two actors in The Last of Us has been known for a year already.
Fans of the video game – and trivially fans of any well-made zombie adaptation – had gotten slightly worried when the new HBO show set its release date in 2023, with no quotation on a specific distribution window. But now they will do nothing but go crazy with joy, finally being able to take a breath, thanks to the nighttime release of the first images of the series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey respectively as Joel and Ellie.
The two are obviously great, if not the only protagonists of this first teaser, distributed during the night as part of a collective spot on the upcoming releases of HBO Max. If the other shows had already had teasers and trailers or at least not the same resonance, this is certainly the most important snippet. In the trailer, we also see the other cast member Nick Offerman, as we hear the voices of Joel and Ellie whispering. The icing on the cake, is the last frame dedicated to the historical creature of the videogame a clicker.
The Last of Us is created by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), flanked by video game creator Neil Druckman. The composer of the wonderful accompanying music for the two video games, Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla (The secrets of Brokeback Mountain, Babel) also edited the music for the HBO series. Fans of the video games created by Druckmann are rightly curious to find out how faithful the television adaptation will be to the original material which, now, has two main chapters and a spin-off (all exclusive to Playstation). Judging from this first footage, the atmospheres seem to perfectly recall those of the videogame counterpart, but we hope to see soon a first trailer that can confirm it! The series does not yet have a precise release date, but we know that it will arrive in the first months of 2023.
