The Last Kingdom Season 5 is available on Netflix. The Last Kingdom is a historical series set in ninth and tenth century England. It revolves around Uhtred of Bebbanburg, a Saxon warrior who was raised by Vikings. He constantly finds himself in situations that force him to choose one group of people over another. But what he firmly believes is that the throne occupied by King Alfred is rightfully his. Developed by Stephen Butchard, this action drama is based on Bernard Cornwell’s series of novels titled The Saxon Stories.
Season 5 of The Last Kingdom has aired on Netflix, bringing the story of legendary warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg to a dramatic end. The Last Kingdom Season 5 Ending Explained: Does Uhtred Die? What Happens to Brida? Who is Osbert?
At the end of Season 5 of The Last Kingdom, all seems lost, but Uhtred and his boys manage to get out of Bebbanburg. He finds Stiorra and begs his daughter to commit his Danish forces to the Saxon cause. Stiorra and his people agree and manage to attack the Scots from the rear. Constantine panics and orders his men to set fire to Bebbanburg.
Uhtred races to Bebbanburg to confront Wihtgar. Then, Aelfweard and threatens Aethelstan, who reveals to him that the evil Elder’s plans are responsible for the death of Aelfweard’s mother. Aelfweard abandons his grandfather, who decides to commit suicide when Aethelstan chooses to leave him alive. Uhtred and Wihtgar face off in the dark and our hero easily kills his evil cousin by pushing him off a balcony. Uhtred eventually takes his birthright and negotiates a peace with Constantine, who leaves. Our hero is reunited with his children. Incidentally, Hild hurries to Babbenburg with a child named Osbert.
Uhtred is Osbert’s father. Osbert is the baby Gisela, Uhtred’s wife, gave birth to a long time ago. He was adopted by the church and therefore escaped most of his family’s adventures. Osbert is brother and sister to young Uhtred and Stiorra. Uhtred reveals that he promised Constantine that Northumbria would remain a buffer zone between England and Scotland until a ruler worthy of uniting England presented himself. At the end of Season 5 of The Last Kingdom, we are treated to a final cut where Uhtred recognizes that he is Uhtred, son of Uhtred.
What Does Seven Kings Must Die Have In Store For Us?
It’s no surprise that The Last Kingdom Season 5 ending isn’t a perfect conclusion. In fact, you could say that things remain more precarious than ever for Uhtred, who has managed to reclaim his ancestral home, but now must defend it from interested parties on both sides.
Both King Constantine of Scotland and King Edward of Wessex are convinced they are the rightful owners of the land, and the fragile truce brokered by Uhtred is sure to come crashing down before long. Another last-minute twist that seems to set the stage for the next film is the surprise reintroduction of Osbert. Uhtred doesn’t have the best track record as a parent so the arrival of another distant offspring is likely to bring some more drama to the film.
