The Last Duel: Surprises In Its First Trailer Film By Ridley Scott With Matt Damon And Adam Driver

The multifaceted director Ridley Scott, best known for films such as Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982) and Gladiator (2000) returns to the ring with a production involving two leading contemporary film actors, Matt Damon and Adam Driver. The three will be integrated to make sense of The Last Duel , a film about which there is already a trailer and release date.

As if part of the previous cast was not entirely attractive, this production also includes Ben Affleck and Jodie Comer, who also enjoy sufficient prestige within the film industry. This movie is inspired by the book The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France written by Eric Jager . The book describes the story of a rape that must be resolved during a duel to the death.

Judging from the first images, suspense and action are the predominant topics throughout the story. The Last Duel , set in 14th century France, is a film that has been talked about since 2015. However, it did not begin filming until last year, 2020. There were different changes to which the appearance was added of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Last Duel Release Date

At first, The Last Duel would be directed by Francis Lawrence. That was only in the plans. It would also star Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, a historical duo since they developed Good Will Hunting together in 1997. The above, partially, was also planned. Ben Affleck, who developed the script with Matt Damon and Nicole Holofcener, preferred to fill a supporting role, playing Count Pierre d’Alençon. His role happened to be filled by Adam Driver while the direction was assumed by Ridley Scott. The Last Duel is currently slated for an October 15, 2021 theatrical release.

The Last Duel tells the true story of a deathmatch that occurred between Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver). They clashed because Marguerite de Carrouges (Jodie Comer) reported being raped by Jacques Le Gris, the best friend of her husband, Jean de Carrouges. The tension reaches such a level that King Carlos VI must intervene to authorize the duel.

Based on what can be interpreted by the trailer, the film will address the different scales of a conflict of that magnitude. From the personal ones, with Marguerite de Carouses as the axis, to the contextual implications of this type of accusation, with the prejudices and value judgments on the part of people outside the problem.
