The House of Usher: Release Date and Cast Everything We Know About The New Miniseries| La Casa Usher
From The Creator Of Hill House And Midnight Mass Mike Flanagan is already working on his new horror project and it is based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe.
The Fall of the House of Usher is one of Edgar Allan Poe’s most ghoulish poems and is now the inspiration behind Mike Flanagan’s new horror project. Why does that name sound familiar to you? Because Flanagan is the creator of The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, which are the best horror miniseries that you can (and should) see in the catalog of Netflix currently (in addition to films such as Hush, Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, the last two based on books by Stephen King).
Hill House and Bly Manor are two stories based on books, where the action takes place inside haunted houses, filled with spirits that haunt the living and become their worst nightmares. The two are part of a kind of horror anthology, although they are not connected, and The Fall of the House of Usher will add to that universe, although it is also a separate miniseries.
Everything indicates that the series will be the next thing we are going to see of Flanagan after Midnight Mass (which is based on a true story and reflects on the dangers of religious fanaticism) and although not much is known yet, it has already been confirmed that will come to Netflix with 8 episodes.
The House of Usher: The Cast
Nothing is confirmed, but Flanagan has added his wife Kate Siegel (who is about to release the movie Hypnotic on Netflix) to all his projects, she was the lead in Hush, Theo in Hill House and a ghost with the most tragic story in Bly. Manor, so we could definitely see her again at the Usher house.
Henry Thomas, Victoria Pedretti, Carla Gugino and Oliver Jackson-Cohen have also collaborated with the director several times and it would not be unusual to see them again in the company of some new actors. Maybe Hamish Linklater, who did a great job as the priest at Midnight Mass.
What is The Fall of the House of Usher About?
The series will be an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, so it might not be exactly the same, but we know that the story of it was written in 1839 and it takes place in a very scary house. The story begins with a narrator approaching the mysterious Usher house on a dark day, the house is the family mansion of an old childhood friend (Roderick Usher) and from what the narrator says is in decay, it is full of cracks and looks like it could fall over time.
It was Roderick who called the narrator and invited him to visit him, in a letter where he tells him that he is very ill and needs to see him. Most importantly, Roderick has a sister, Madeline, who suffers from catalepsy (a disease that simulates death) and Roderick and his visitor end up having to bury her after a series of mysterious events. Things do not end there and everything gets more gloomy when they decide to go check the body and discover that what happened with Madeline was not what they expected.
When it Premieres?
For now there is no release date, but the series has already been confirmed, with Flanagan as producer and director of at least the first 4 chapters of the story.
2018’s The Haunting of Hill House was inspired by Shirley Jackson’s horror novel. In 2020, The Haunting of Bly Manor was inspired by Henry James’ book The Turn of the Screw, The House of Usher will take Edgar Allan Poe and it is known that Flanagan is also preparing an adaptation of Christopher Pike’s book The Midnight Club for Netflix, which will arrive next year. And Midnight Mass was also inspired by a book, although it is a fictional book that had appeared as an Easter Egg in other of his films.
