BBC and Prime Video unveil the first images of The English, a western series starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer.

BBC and Prime Video have released the first official images of Hugo Blick’s international miniseries The English, a western drama starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer. Written and directed by Hugo Blick, the series is set in 1890s America and follows the story of an English aristocrat named Lady Cornelia Locke (played by Emily Blunt) and a former Pawnee tribe explorer Eli Whipp (played by Chaske Spencer), who join forces “to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood”. The series promises to explore the themes of identity, revenge, interracial love and power.

“Both have a clear sense of their destiny, but neither of them is aware that it is rooted in such a similar past,” the synopsis reveals again. “They face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will challenge them, physically and psychologically. But when every obstacle is overcome, they will be close to their final destination, the new city of Hoxem, Wyoming.”

Joining Blunt and Spencer are Stephen Rea (The Shadow Line), Sheriff Robert Marshall and Valerie Pachner (The Kingsman), as the young widow Martha Myers, a duo investigating a series of horrific murders. Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Toby Jones and Ciarán Hinds complete the cast. Wolf Gait Productions Ltd, a joint venture between Drama Republic (Doctor Foster) owned by Mediawan and Eight Rooks Ltd, is producing in association with All3Media International. Director Hugo Blick will executively produce alongside Emily Blunt, Greg Brenman (Peaky Blinders) and Mona Qureshi for the BBC. Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) produces. Amazon Studios and the BBC are co-producing the show, while All3 Media International is handling international sales. The English will be available on Prime Video and, in the UK, on ​​BBC One. It will be released in November.
