The Crow: Everything We Know About the Remake of The Cursed Movie

The original version of The Crow premiered in 1994 and starred Brandon Lee, son of the legendary Bruce Lee, and Michael Wincott. The film tells the story of a man who comes back to life after being murdered, along with his fiancée and seeks revenge on those who took their lives. 30 years later, The Crow is back with a remake, which takes the original story and gives it a modern spin. The new version is directed by Rupert Sanders, of Ghost in the Shell and the Foundation series, and stars Bill Skarsgard, the actor who played Pennywise in the It remake, who takes Lee’s place as the protagonist, Eric Draven. Skarsgard plays Eric with a different look, tattoos, and a much less gothic style than Brandon Lee. The original movie was once considered a cursed movie due to an accident during filming, but The Crow became a cult classic, so the remake has some big shoes to fill.

The Disaster on the Set of the Original Version

The Crow was marked by tragedy, as Brandon Lee died while one of the movie’s scenes was being filmed. According to reports, an error occurred with one of the props, and a bullet fragment from a previous scene was lodged in one of the weapons that were going to be used in the scene, thus the actor was injured on the set when he was with actor Michael Massee, whose character was supposed to shoot Eric. Lee fell to the ground and everyone thought it was part of the scene, but they quickly realized something was wrong, but by that point, it was too late, Lee died right there and this sparked an important conversation about safety. on film sets. The incident came to light again when it was revealed that a similar situation had happened on the set of the movie Rust, where Alec Baldwin had to fire a gun with blanks, which ended up causing the death of the cinematographer.

So much so, actor Bill Skarsgard will take on the role of The Raven, an actor known for key roles in the remake of It, John Wick 4, Barbarian, The Devil All the Time or Eternals in the role of the villain Kro, among others. Among the actors who opted for the role, we find Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hiddleston, Luk Evans, Jason Momoa, and his brother Alexander Skarsgard. Joining him will be singer FKA Twigs, Isabella Wei, and Danny Huston, presumably in the villain role. All of them were under the direction of Rupert Sanders and the script by Zach Baylin after the failed attempts of other filmmakers such as Stephen Norington (Blade) or Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 weeks later), among others. Filming for this new version of The Crow began in the summer of 2022, ending in September of that same year. Currently, the film is in the post-production phase with a theatrical release date yet to be announced, although it is expected that it could arrive in early 2024. Let’s remember that the story of The Raven presents us with Eric Draven and his girlfriend Shelley when they are attacked by a gang of criminals. Both are killed, although Draven is resurrected thanks to a mysterious raven that grants him supernatural powers so that he can carry out his revenge against his murderers.
