The Boys Season 3: Who Is Soldier Boy In The Comics?
The character that has been a parody of Captain America was created by Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson. The stocky man is the leader of Payback, a superhero team consisting of Eagle the Archer, Tek Knight, Swatto, Crimson Countess, and Stormfront. However, his obsession with becoming a member of the seven makes him an easy target and he is easily outmatched by his opponents.
The Seven are a group of superheroes created and managed by Vought International, and who use their gifts for glamour, fame and money. And, while Soldier Boy is a strong and powerful character, his desire to join the select group makes him weak and vulnerable.
Soldier Boy A Cowardly Parody Of Captain America
He appears in the original comics as the chosen leader of Payback, although he personally always wanted to be part of the Seven. He claims to have fought in World War II, although he is never taken seriously by other characters, especially Billy Butcher. Currently, he is dead in this universe and a funeral organized by the supes was held. Later, it is revealed that he has not been the only one to carry this alias, and his predecessors also met the same fate as leaders of his teams.
His powers include super strength, superhuman speed, the ability to use a shield, and expert hand-to-hand combat. On the other hand, his greatest weakness is his cowardice and innocence, which is usually taken advantage of by those around him. Unlike Homelander and other superheroes, his ideals are true, he is a patriot and he really treats his job for what it is: a job for others.
In the upcoming episodes of The Boys, this parody of Captain America with a reference to rapper Soulja Boy (because of the phonetics of the name), will mark his first appearance at a critical time for Vought and the Seven. Speaking to the Inside of You podcast, Ackles talked a little more about how he’s bringing this character to life on the small screen. “He is a grandfather. He’s from the ’40s. He fought in WWII, and he’s just this curmudgeonly, bigoted jerk.”, he commented.
