The Boroughs: The New Science Fiction Series From The Creators Of Stranger Things

The creators of Stranger Things, Matt, and Ross Duffer, in addition to the grand finale of the sci-fi series with Milly Bobby Brown, are working on a new science fiction series for Netflix. It’s called The Boroughs and it’s an 8-episode title about a group of retirement home retirees who face an otherworldly threat. The series is created by Jeffrey Addiss (The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim) and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), who are also showrunners of the series while the executive production is entrusted to Matt and Ross Duffer together with Hilary Leavitt through their production company Upside Down Pictures.

The anticipated production will be divided into eight episodes and will tell a story full of mysteries and supernatural events. This has been announced in a brief synopsis: “In a seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a group of unlikely heroes must come together to prevent a supernatural threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time”. The project’s plot comes from the minds of Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Haunted Crystal: Age of Resistance), who will serve as showrunners.

“We are delighted to be back on Netflix. Working alongside the Duffer brothers (who are quite good at making these types of shows) and their team has been a dream come true,” Addiss and Matthews said in a statement. “They bring the perfect balance between heart and horror to our story. “We can’t wait for audiences around the world to discover the dark mystery buried beneath the sunny façade of The Boroughs”. Brothers Duffer and Hilary Leavitt will executive produce on behalf of Upside Down Pictures.

“We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they presented their idea for The Boroughs to us, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands,” said Matt and Ross. “While the heroes are a few years older than the kids in Stranger Things, they’re an equally lovable group of misfits and we can’t wait for you to join them on a sometimes-scary adventure. It’s funny and deeply moving”.

The Expansion of the “Stranger Things” Universe!

The program will mark the latest project from the brothers who created Stranger Things, who also announced a few days ago that they will launch an animated series of their popular show starring Millie Bobby Brown that will be released on Netflix. The show is being developed by Flying Bark Productions with executive producer Eric Robles, set in the Upside-Down universe, and is a tribute by the directors to the cartoons they grew up with.

The fifth and final season is produced by the Duffers in conjunction with the newly announced series. The writing of the scripts for the next adventures of Eleven and Company began in August 2022. In addition to the television phenomenon, they command, the scriptwriters and filmmakers are also developing a live-action adaptation of the anime and manga Death Note. The production company is also teaming up with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Paramount Television on a television adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel, The Talisman.
