The Book of Boba Fett: All Easter Eggs From Episode 2 The Absence Of The Rancor?
A Wookiee with black fur, Jabba's cousins and a mysterious train: here are the easter eggs of the second episode of The Book of Boba Fett.
From today 5 January 2022 the second episode of the first season of the TV series The Book of Boba Fett is available with an (unexpected) duration of over 50 minutes. The episode entitled “The tribes of Tatooine” is divided in two between the past and the present of Boba Fett (it seems that this will be the trend of the series until its conclusion) or between his wanting to be the daimyo aka the leader of the criminal empire of Tatooine and his personal journey with the Tusken, after coming out of Sarlacc alive.
The second chapter of The Book of Boba Fett, also given its duration, presents several easter eggs and interesting quotes to bring to light beware of spoilers!
The Absence Of The Rancor
Fennec Shand throws the Night Wind killer into the cage where a man-eating monster is supposed to be! This is the Rancor or a creature used by Jabba the Hutt to kill his prisoners. The cell is empty because the Rancor was killed by Luke Skywalker in the movie Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The Homage To Star Tours
One of the droids that can be seen in the Refuge (also present in the first episode) is a tribute to RX-24, or the clumsy pilot droid who guided the fans inside one of the Star Wars attractions that is the Star Tours. This attraction debuted at Disneyland in 1987 and has been replaced over time by more modern ones. On Disney + you can find an interesting documentary on the Star Wars attractions inside the theme parks.
The Cousins Of Jabba The Hutt
In the Star Wars canon the recognized cousins of Jabba are two or Crakka and Hiro, but these are not twins. The first appeared recently only in comics (Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader’s Castle # 4, released in the USA in 2019), the second appeared several times in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but was also killed here.
Considering also the pink color of the skin – which is like that of Crakka in the comics – the female specimen of the Hutts that has been seen in this second episode could be just Crakka. Next to her it is conceivable that there is a twin brother whose existence was not known. Boba Fett suggests that the twins return to Nal Hutta. Well, this is a swampy planet controlled by the Hutts
The Wookiee With The Black Fur
The Wookiee with the black fur is Black Krrsantan or a bounty hunter (former gladiator) hired by the Jabba. Black Krrsantan has also worked for Darth Vader in the past. It is the first time that he has been seen in live-action version, in fact this character has only appeared in comics (he made his debut in Darth Vader # 1 of 2015).
Boba Fett seems to know him in fact he turns to the Hutts making them understand that he knows the former gladiator. Plus Boba appoints the Trandoshane guards. These have the appearance of humanoid reptiles and are of the same species as the bounty hunter Bossk. By naming them Boba Fett is referring to the ambush Black Krrsantan set up these guards and which can be read in the 2016 Doctor Aphra Annual #1 comic.
The Train
The assault on the train in the desert was reminiscent of the beautiful scenes from the Mad Max saga but brought to mind the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. In fact, the train is powered by a blue substance, reminiscent of the precious coaxial seen in Ron Howard’s film.
The Slave Mines Of Kessel
The Slave Mines of Kessel was visited in the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. The train, the spices, the coax (if it were coax) and the representative of the Pyke all do nothing but corroborate my thesis that the TV series The Book of Boba Fett could be a perfect sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story. In this second episode we see one of the leaders of the Pike union. As seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story when leader Quay Tolsite argued with Qi’ra, after she came to Kessel with Han Solo.
The Spice Sansanna
After stopping the train, Boba Fett specifically asks about the Sansanna spice. Well, this one appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a valuable resource for many criminals. The leader of the Pykes himself, Lom Pyke, was an avid consumer of this spice. This can be used as a drug and can have healing effects. It is still unclear how potent it is as a drug and why, of course, Boba Fett is looking for it.
